The maximum spring travel is 4 mm and the maximum spring force is
4.7 N (approx. 470 g). The force that acts upon the tooth is determined
by different factors (among others the friction of the amda
telescopes).
®
The force is always lower then the maximal spring force and can be
measured with appropriate instruments (e.g. Tension and compression
gauge, REF 006-013-00 or REF 040-712-00).
Double-check one last time.
5.2 Monitoring clinical progress
Do the first checkup a few days after fitting the appliance into the
patient´s mouth. Do regular checkups every 4 to 6 weeks. Generally, no
movement can be seen in the first weeks. Check if the amda
palatal arch
®
remains firmly attached to the tomas
-pins EP and the anterior stop screws.
®
As distalization progresses, the force of the nickel-titanium spring in the
amda
telescope decreases (Fig. 6). The reduced force is clearly shown
®
by a larger distance between the anterior stop screw and the telescope
and / or by a larger distance between the anterior and the posterior
stop screw (Fig. 7). If the spring in the amda
telescope needs to be
®
activated again, loosen the anterior stop screw and fix mosquito forceps
in front of it. Then, push the screw towards posterior using the mosquito
forceps until the desired force is achieved (Fig. 6). Afterwards, tighten the
anterior stop screw again.
