4.2.2 ATTENUATION TEST Function
This function shows on screen in a simple and concise way the attenuation (dB)
on a fibre optic installation in the three most common wavelengths of data transmission
(1490, 1550 for Downstream and 1310 for Upstream) for this type of installations. These
data are essential to certificate fibre optic installation.

To make a proper measurement with this function, first you have to capture the
reference values. To do this you should use the PROLITE-65 with a calibrated
wavelenght generator (PROLITE-105) through a reference optical fibre. Then you have
to capture the new reference values pressing UP
simultaneously for one second. Now you can make measurements on the optical fibre
at the installation. For a practical application refer to the appendix.
a) Wavelenght at which measurements are taken. Wavelenght 1310 nm
corresponds to Upstream and the other two (1490 and 1550 nm) corresponds
to Downstream.
b) Absolute power loss of the signal at the corresponding wavelenght. It
represents the measurement of the power loss or signal attenuation in dB.
