Safety instructions
please read the operating instructions before using the helmet check that the front cover lens is fitted
correctly if it is not possible to eliminate errors, you must stop using the cartridge For more information,
please contact your optrel dealer
Precautions & protective restrictions
During the welding process, heat and radiation are released, which can cause damage to the eyes and
skin this product offers protection for the eyes and face When wearing the helmet, your eyes are always
protected against ultraviolet and infrared radiation, regardless of the shade level to protect the rest of your
body, appropriate protective clothing must also be worn in some circumstances, particles and substances
released by the welding process can trigger allergic skin reactions in correspondingly predisposed persons
materials that come into contact with skin may cause allergic reactions to susceptible persons
the protective welding helmet must only be used for welding and grinding and not for other applications
optrel assumes no liability when the welding helmet is used for purposes other than intended or with disregard
for the operating instructions the helmet is suitable for all established welding procedures, excluding gas
and laser welding Please note the recommended protection level in accordance with EN169 on the cover.
Colour view
to increase convenience and safety, you can recognize colours with this welding helmet
Sleep mode
the welding helmet is equipped with an automatic shut-off function that extends the battery life if, for ten
minutes, less than 1 lux of light reaches the sensor, the helmet automatically shuts off it can be turned
back on by exposing it briefly to sunlight if the helmet cannot be reactivated or does not darken when the
welding arc is ignited, the battery must be recharged
Warranty & liability
please see the instructions of the national sales organisation of optrel for warranty provisions For further
information in this respect, please contact your optrel dealer Warranty is only granted for material and
manufacturing defects in the case of damage caused by improper use, unauthorised intervention or
through usage not intended by the manufacturer, the warranty or liability are no longer valid likewise,
liability and the warranty are no longer valid if spare parts other than those sold by optrel are used
the two-year warranty period begins on the date of purchase (sales receipt) this period is extended by
one year when the helmet is registered on the optrel web page
Expected Lifetime
the welding helmet has no expiration date the product can be used as long as no visible or invisible
damage or functional problems occur
How to use (Guide S. 2-3 / Functions S. 4-5)
correctly setting the headband is very important for this product, since that is the only way to use the
advantages of the wide field of vision
1 Head band. adjust the upper adjusting band to the size of your head push in the ratchet knob and
turn until the head band fits securely but without pressure (p 2-3 no 3a)
2 Distance from eyes. By releasing the locking knobs, the distance between the cartridge and the eyes
can be adjusted position the helmet as close to the eye as possible (the closer the glare protection
cassette is to the eyes, the wider the field of vision) adjust both sides equally and do not tilt then
tighten the locking knobs again (p 2-3 no 3b)
3 Helmet inclination (eccentric button). the inclination of the helmet can be adjusted with the rotary
knob set the inclination so that the user's nose does not touch the nose notch carefully ensure that
the helmet shell does not touch the user's nose even when he nods (use the nose pad included to
protect your nose) (p 2-3, no 3c)
4 Automatic/manual operating mode. the sliding switch is used to set the protection level setting
mode in automatic mode, the protection level is automatically adjusted to the intensity of the light
arc via sensors (standard En 379:2003) in manual mode, the protection level can be set by turning
the knob
5 Shade Level. Manual mode: in "manual" mode, protection levels 7-12 can be selected by turning
the protection level regulator(protection level correction is disabled in manual mode)
Auto mode: in automatic mode ("auto"), the protection level is automatically adjusted and corresponds
to the 5 > 12 protection level according to the En 379 standard when the rotary knob is in the "n"
position (the absolute minimum and maximum are protection levels 5 and 12; values outside this
range are not possible, no matter the correction setting) (p 4-5 no lll)
6 Delay switch. the opening knob (Delay) (p 5) allows to select an opening delay from dark to light
the rotary knob allows stepless setting from dark to light between 01 and 20 s with switchable twilight
effect (p 3-4 no ll)
7 Twilight. the twilight effect's fluid transition from dark to light protects the eyes even better from fatigue
and irritation during object afterglow and gives them the time they need to adjust to brightness (p 3-4 no ll)
caution: For quick tack welding, do not turn the rotary knob to the twilight range the "tack" range,
with its minimal opening delay, is best suited for this
8 Grinding mode. press the grind button to switch the helmet to grinding mode in this mode, the
cartridge is disabled and remains in light condition for ten minutes grinding mode activation can be
recognized from outside by the flashing blue lED and from inside by the reflection on the helmet's
viewing pane to deactivate grinding mode, press the protection level knob again (p 3-4 no v)
9 Sensitivity. use the sensitivity knob (p 5) to set the ambient light sensitivity the border of the "super
high" area is the standard sensivity setting By turning the knob, these can be customized in the
"super high" area the maximum light sensitivity can be achieved (p 3-4 no l)
10 Sensors. this welding helmet is equipped with five sensors Four sensors detect the welding light,
and one sensor detects the light intensity (automatic mode) and services the new stay-dark function
Cleaning
the shade cartridge and the front cover lens must be cleaned with a soft cloth at regular intervals no
strong cleaning agents, solvents, alcohol or cleaning agents containing scouring agent must be used
scratched or damaged lenses must be replaced
Storage
the welding helmet must be stored at room temperature and at low humidity o extend battery life, store
the helmet in a bright area
Replacing the the front cover lens (p. 2-3, No. 4)
1 the viewing pane can be released from its anchoring and withdrawn with a tug on the side flap
2 clip the new viewing panes into the side clip clip it to the second side clip and snap it in place
this procedure requires some pressure if the seal is to have the desired effect on the viewing pane
Battery/charging procedure (p. 2-3, No. 1)
the helmet is equipped with a high-power lithium polymer (lipo) battery completely charge the battery
before initial use by inserting the micro-usB cable supplied in to a commercially available usB plug (not
included) after charging, the micro-usB socket in the helmet must be protected from dust and dirt with
the protective cap the solar cell also charges the battery from external light sources (overhead lights,
welding light) if the helmet is used often, the battery will very rarely need charging
it is recommended that the helmet be charged completely every six months
if the battery is flat, 15 minutes of charging is sufficient for about eight hours of operation
Charge status:
1) flashing red: Battery is nearly flat (charge immediately)
2) steady orange: Battery is charging
3) steady green: Battery is completely charged
if the helmet does not darken when the welding arc is ignited, check the charging status (press the grind
button; if the lED no longer flashes blue, the battery is completely flat) if the glare protection cassette fails
to function correctly even when the battery is charged, contact your optrel dealer
optrel or a certified service centre can replace a defective battery
Troubleshooting
