With generator to rated speed, without load, the voltage at the output terminals is equal to the
residual voltage of the machine or lower than the nominal one.
Step 1
Check the connections.
In case of missing or incorrect connections, reconnect following the diagram supplied
with the generator.
Otherwise, go to Step 2.
Step 2
Check that the inner fuse is not broken.
If it actually is, replace it with a new fuse having the same features.
Otherwise, go to Step 3.
NOTE: If while restarting the generator the new fuse immediately breaks, go directly
to Step 6.
Step 3
Check the calibration of the VOLT meter.
In particular, with VOLT fully rotated counter-clockwise, the reference voltage is at a
minimum level and the controller does not provide excitation energy.
Reset the VOLT meter.
Otherwise, go to Step 4.
Step 4
Measure the residual voltage value on supply terminals U and 0 of the controller, that
is check if the residual magnetism of the machine is sufficient to arise self-excitation
energy (both in case of supply from the main terminals and from auxiliary winding).
If at rated speed the residual supply voltage is less than 5V, increase the residual
magnetism of the generator by following the instructions contained in the User and
Maintenance Manual of the device itself.
Otherwise, go to Step 5.
Step 5
Check if the over excitation energy limiter has tripped, that is check the calibration of
the AMP meter.
Fully rotate the AMP meter clockwise.
If the voltage rises, reset (if necessary) the VOLT meter so as to bring the generator at
the rated voltage. Then reset the AMP meter according to the instructions described
in this Technical Note.
If the voltage does not change, go to Step. 6.
Step 6
Replace the voltage controller.
With generator to rated speed, without load, the voltage at the output terminals is higher than
the nominal one.
Step 1
If the voltage at the output terminals is higher than 120% of the rated voltage of the
generator, INSTANTLY STOP THE GENERATOR and check ALL the connections,
particularly those on specific terminals S-0.
If there is not any connection to the terminals P and Q (external potentiometer or
analog control signal), check that there is no jumper short-circuiting the terminals
themselves.
In case of missing or incorrect connections, reconnect following the diagrams
supplied with the generator.
If after restarting the generator the problem persists, go to Step 3.
