#2 - VISUAL / MULTI-METER CHECKS
CHECK C Fuse
Visual inspection
:
Check that the fuse is not blown or damaged.
-
Check that the fuse holder fixing blades are
-
tight around terminals A and B.
Check that there is no resin/dirt between the
-
fuse holder and the fuse terminals.
Multi-meter check
:
1- Remove the fuse from the fuse holder.
2- In
the
multi-meter,
measurement mode.
3- Connect the multi-meter probes to terminals A
and B of the fuse and check that the measured
different from the expected one, replace the
fuse.
Check result
:
If the result of all the above checks is positive, tick the ok box in section #2 of the report form,
-
Check C.
Otherwise leave the box blank.
In case of component failure:
Possible effects on regulation
The alternator output voltage is lower than the rated voltage and equal to the residual one.
-
You cannot set the proper value using the VOLT trimmer.
Possible failure causes
Mechanical damage caused by impact/shock.
-
Presence of resin on the fuse terminals and/or on the fuse holder blades.
-
Not enough contact between the fuse and the fuse-holder.
-
Improper connection.
-
Failure of the exciter.
-
Short circuit between terminals + and -.
-
Actions
:
Replace the fuse and try restarting the alternator.
-
In case of any further fuse failure, check the insulation of the exciter with a megaohmmeter
-
If there are no problems with the exciter insulation, replace the AVR.
