Connecting the Torch to
the Propane Gas Supply
1. Remove the cap from the POL. Insert POL stem
into the valve on the propane gas supply. Thread the
nut counterclockwise into the propane supply valve.
Tighten the nut securely with a wrench. See Fig. 3
a or b. (Note: Torchman 500 torches DO
NOT require a regulator. The POL fi tting
is connected directly to the LP tank
valve. Torchman 300 SV torches require
a regulator.)
2. Slowly open the tank valve. This will prevent lock-
up of the excess fl ow valve within POL stem.
3. Check all connections with approved leak detector.
Do not use fl ame to check for leaks. A fi re or explo-
sion may result.
4. When storing or transporting the torch, ensure the
POL is protected from damage and dirt entry.

Lighting Instructions
WARNING
■ Fire and explosion hazard.
■ Can cause property damage, severe injury
or death.
■ To avoid dangerous accumulation of fuel gas,
ensure the torch's manual valve is closed
before opening the main fuel supply valve.
DO NOT PLACE YOUR HAND OR ANY PART OF
YOUR BODY IN THE PATH OF THE BURNER WHILE
LIGHTING OR OPERATING THE TORCH. DO NOT
USE MATCHES OR A CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO
IGNITE THE TORCH.
1. Slowly open the gas container valve to prevent lock-

a. If opened quickly, the excess fl ow device within
the POL fi tting will close, preventing gas fl ow.
b. If this occurs, close the container valve, wait
about one minute to allow the fl ow device to reset
itself. Then open the valve SLOWLY.
2. Torchman 500:
a. Use the spark lighter to ignite the gas while
opening the torch's manual valve about 1/8 turn
or until a small amount of gas is heard escaping.
b. Once the torch is lit, open the torch's manual
valve to desired setting.
Torchman 300 SV:
a. Open the manual valve on the torch about 1/8
turn.
b. Fully depress the red button on the safety control
valve while using the spark lighter to ignite the
gas.
c. Keep the button depressed for about 30 seconds
to allow the thermocouple warm-up.
d. Release the safety control button.
e. Once the torch is lit, open the torch's manual
valve to desired setting.
Shut-Down Instructions
1. Close the valve located on the propane container.
2. Allow the torch to burn off any gas remaining in the
gas supply line.
3. Close the torch's manual valve.
