2. Temporary Moisture Seal (If Required)
When installing the heating cable, the Cable Heating core must be protected from getting wet as moisture
will damage the cable and may result in electrical shock and/or cable failure. For installations where the
Power Splice end of the cable is being pushed or pulled through the pipe, a temporary Moisture Seal is
required. For installations with a serviceable End Seal, a temporary Moisture Seal is required if the End Seal is
being pushed or pulled through the pipe. Follow the same procedure in Section 1 to install Temporary
Moisture Seal. The Temporary Moisture Seal will be removed prior to installation of power splice connection
or re-installation of the End seal.
3. Install Pull Cord (If Required)
In straight pipe installations where cable is being pushed downwards, up to 100 ft of lubricated cable could
be pushed in the pipe. It is not necessary to install the Pull Cord if the cable can be pushed into the pipe.
Longer pipe lengths or pipes with multiple bends will usually require the cable to be pulled into the pipe.
Install Pull Cord on cable at either End Seal or Temporary Moisture Seal, depending on which end is being
pulled into the pipe as follows:
Tie the Pull Cord around the cable 10 cm (4") away from the End Seal (or Temporary Moisture Seal) and
spiral around cable as shown. Place the 13 mm (0.5") piece of Large shrink tube that you cut in the End Seal
section over the knot and shrink. Repeat this process two more times at one inch increments from the first
knot.
Apply a small amount of electrical tape to secure Pull Cord to the End Seal – this will minimize force on End
Seal and ensures that End Seal can be pulled smoothly through pipe/fittings.
• Do not pull on the end seal during the installation process.
• Electrical shock may result from damaged end seal.
