Preparation for Installation of the Cable
This heating cable system has been designed to prevent water supply and drain pipes from freezing. It is
expected that one cable would be installed in ¾" to 2" diameter pipe (Small pipe).
For pipes greater than 2" up to 6" diameter (Large pipe), two parallel runs of cable would be necessary.
However, if the length of the pipe being heated is less than half of the maximum length of the cable,
(maximum length of cable for SR31J is 67 m (220') and TSR31F is 84 m (275'), then one continuous cable can be
looped back to the Start Plumbing Fitting.
The cable installation will have longer life if the End Seal can be routed outside the pipe to a dry, protected
area, especially if the pipe is pressurized. For Small pipes, this will require an additional compression fitting p/n:
CFIL. For larger pipes, the cable can be "doubled-back" inside the pipe to the compression fitting provided with
the ILSR kit and then exit the pipe through the second slot in the compression fitting grommet.
See below for configurations.
WaRnIng: If the cable is being installed in a pressurized pipe, the maximum system pressure must not exceed
60 psig.
The ILSR can accommodate a variety of cable/pipe configurations as shown below:
Configuration 1: Small pipe, serviceable End Seal. Requires Additional Compression Fitting Assembly, p/n: CFIL,
(See Note 3)
Configuration 2: Small pipe, non-serviceable End Seal.
