OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
PREPARING FOR OPERATION
1. Checktheheaterforpossibleshippingdamage.Ifanyis
found,immediatelynotifythefactory.
2. Followallofthe"Precautions".
3. ConnectthePOLfittingofhoseandregulatorassembly
tothepropanecylinderbyrotatingthePOLnut
counterclockwiseintothepropanecylinder'svalveoutletand
securelytightenwithawrench.
4. Connectthehosetotheheaterbyrotatingthehosefitting
clockwise.
5. Securelytightenallgasconnections.
6. Openthecylinder'sgasvalveandcheckallgasconnections
withasoapandwatersolution.DONOTUSEAFLAME.
7.
Connectpowercordtowell-grounded115V,60Hz,1Øsource
ofpower.
8. Whenusinganextensioncord,makecertainthatitisa
3-wire(grounded)cordofproperwiresize.
START
1. Slowlyopenthemainvalveatpropanecylindertoprevent
excessflowcheckvalvefromclosing.
2. Setthermostattofullon.Heaterwilligniteautomatically.
3. Adjustballvalveoncontrolpaneltodesiredburnrate.
4. Setthermostattodesiredtemperature.Heaterwillturnoff
andonautomaticallyasthetemperaturevariesintheheater
area.
STOP
1. Securelyclosevalveonthepropanecylinder.
2. Continuetooperateheateruntilallfuelinthehosehas
burned.
3. Turntheheaterthermostatto"off".Forextendedshutdown
orinareaswherethetemperatureisbelow0°F,unplugthe
heater.
RESTART AFTER SAFETY SHUTDOWN
1. Securelyclosevalveatpropanecylinder.Unplugheater.
2. Wait5minutes.
3. Restartfollowing"Start"procedure.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
1. Theheatershouldbeinspectedbeforeeachuse,andatleast
annuallybyaqualifiedperson.
2. Beforeeachuse,checkthesoft"O"ringseatatthebullnose
ofthePOLfitting.Ifthe"O"ringiscut,scuffed,orotherwise
damaged,replaceitwithpartnumber6681.[Isthistheright
#?]
3. TurnoffthegasattheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)whenthe
heaterisnotinuse.
4. Whentheheateristobestoredindoors,theconnection
betweentheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)andtheheatermust
bedisconnectedandthecylinder(s)removedfromtheheater
andstoredoutofdoorsandinaccordancewithChapter5of
thestandardforStorageandHandlingofLiquefiedPetroleum
GasesANSI/NFPA58andCSAB149.1,NaturalGasand
PropaneInstallationCode.
SERVICING
Ahazardousconditionmayresultifaheaterisusedthathasbeen
modifiedorisnotfunctioningproperly.
Force-Air Propane Construction Heater
Whentheheaterisworkingproperly:
• Theflameiscontainedwithintheheater.
• Theflameisessentiallybluewithperhapssomeyellow
tipping.
• Thereisnostrongdisagreeableodor,eyeburningor
otherphysicaldiscomfort.
• Thereisnosmokeorsootinternalorexternaltothe
heater.
• Therearenounplannedorunexplainedshutdownsof
theheater.
Thepartslistsandwiringdiagramshowtheheaterasitwas
constructed.Donotuseaheaterwhichisdifferentfromthat
shown.Inthisregard,useonlythehose,regulatorandcylinder
connectionfitting(calledaPOLfitting)suppliedwiththeheater.
IMPORTANTMatchthecolorstripeonthehangtagattachedto
thehoseassemblywiththecoloronthelabellocatednearthe
propaneinletfittingontheheater.Donotusealternates.Forthis
heater,theregulatormustbesetasshownin"specifications".
Ifthereisanyuncertaintyabouttheregulatorsetting,haveit
checked.
Aheaterwhichisnotworkingrightmustberepaired,butonlyby
atrained,experiencedserviceperson.
In-warrantyproductswillberepairedwithnochargeforeither
partsorlabor.Pleaseincludeabriefstatementindicatingdate,
placeofpurchase,thenatureoftheproblemandproofof
purchase.
Out-of-warrantyproductswillberepairedwithachargeforparts
andlabor.
SIZE AND CAPACITY
OF PROPANE CYLINDERS
Thechartsbelowshowtheapproximatesizeofthecylinder
requiredfortheseheaters.Tousethechart:
1. Selectthelowestairtemperatureexpected(atthe
bottomofthechart).
2. Movestraightuptotimeofoperationdesired(leftside
ofthechart).
3. Readthecylindersizerequired.
Allheatersshouldhave:
Fullcylinderswithgoodaircirculationandnofrostoncylinders
