9. VENTILATION
a.Theminimumintakeandexhaustairopeningsshall
providefornotlessthan400CFMforevery100,000
BTUinputexceptthattheinfiltrationareamaybe
includedintheintakearea.Theexhaustfanmustbe
interlockedwiththeheaterthermostat.Ifapower
exhaustfanisused,itshouldbecontrolledbythe
thermostatorhumidistat
b. W herenaturalventilation(gravity)isprovidedfor
exhaust,theopeningsmustbedistributedabovethe
heaters(preferablyatthepeakoftheroof)andthe
areasofopeningsshallnotbelessthan300square
inchesforevery100,000BTUinput.
10. OPERATIONS
Uponcompletionofelectricalwiring,gaspipingand
purgingofgaslinestoheaters,refertothelighting
instructionplateattachedtoheaterforproperlighting
procedure.
11. CLEANING INFORMATION
Ensurethattheheaterisoffandcool.BlowoutVenturi
andburnerfacewithcompressedair(25psimax.
pressure);alsocleanorifices(seeTable2forcorrect
orificesize).Fordetailedmaintenanceandcleaning
instructionscontactyourlocalrepresentativeorfactory.

12. START-UP PROCEDURE
Uponsatisfactorycompletionoftheelectricalsupplyand
purgingofthegassupplylinetotheheater(s)followthe
lightinginstructionsontheheater'sratinglabeltoputthe
heaterintooperation.
1. R otatetheheater'svalveknobtothe"ON"position
toopenthegassupplyvalveor
valves.(Especiallyimportantafter
installation,wait5minutestoallow
gasthatmayhaveaccumulatedin
themainburner
toescape).
2. S etthethermostattothedesired
temperaturesetting.SeeFigure6.
3. W henvoltageisappliedtothe
controlsconnections,theignition
modulesendspowertogasvalve
whilesimultaneouslysendingsparktotheigniter.The
igniterwillsparkfirstthenmainvalveisenergized.
4.Afterignitionthesparkelectrode/flamesensormonitors
thepilotflame.Ifapilotflameisnotrecognizedwithin
15secondsthecontrolwillimmediatelytrytoreignite.If
thepilotflameisnotestablishedafter(3)ignition
sequencestheheaterwilllockout.Thecontrolcanbe
resetbybrieflyin terruptingthepowersourcethenrepeat
abovesteps.
NOTE:
DuringtheinitialstartupofHEATSTARanodorand,
perhaps,somevaporwillcomefromtheheater.Thisisthe
gasketbindingmaterialemittingthisodorand/orvapor.
Afterapproximately20minutesthisodorwilldisappearand
notoccuragain.
13. SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE
1. T urnoffelectricalcircuit(thermostat)fortemporary
shutdown.
2. F orcompleteshutdownturnofftheelectricalcircuit
(thermostat),closegasvalvemainsupplylinethenturn
gasvalvecontrolknobtothe"Off"position.
