Step 1 – Prepare the Area

Inspect the area you are considering for
installing your ladder. Ensure that this area is
free of any electrical wires, receptacles or
cables. If this area is free of such obstacles,
proceed to the next step. Use a stud finder
to locate the edges of the studs (see diagram
on page 5) and mark the inner edge of the
right and left studs. Locate the center of this
space and mark it also.
2.
Measure the distance between the marks
you made for the inner edge of the studs.
Remember stud finders are not always exact.
If this space does not appear to be roughly
14-1/4" to 14-3/4" wide, you will likely need to
reposition the studs to allow the metal pan
to fit between them. If this space DOES
appear to be roughly 14-1/4" to 14-3/4" wide,
proceed to the next step.
3.
Place the level on the window sill
perpendicular to the window opening.
Use your tape to measure from the end of
the level to a point approximately 5 to 6
inches below the window opening.
