INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE

It is important that the tools be serviced and inspected at regular
intervals for maintaining safe, trouble--free operation of the tool.
Be sure the tool is receiving adequate lubrication, as failure to lu-
bricate can create hazardous operating conditions resulting from
excessive wear.
Be sure that the air supply lines and connectors are of proper size
to provide a sufficient quantity of air to the tool.
Tool maintenance and repair shall be performed by authorized,
trained, competent personnel. Tools, hose and fittings shall be re-
placed if unsuitable for safe operation and responsibility should
be assigned to be sure that all tools requiring guards or other safe-
ty devices are so equipped. Critical rating markings on the tool
shall be kept in legible condition. Maintenance and repair records
should be maintained on all tools. Frequency of repair and the na-
ture of the repairs can reveal unsafe application. Scheduled main-
tenance by competent authorized personnel should detect any
mistreatment or abuse of the tool and worn parts. Corrective ac-
tion should be taken before returning the tool for use.
SET- - UP PROCEDURE
(FE034A- - ( )- - ( )EU and FE054C- -( )- -( )EU)
Shut off air supply to tool.
Loosen screw, releasing side cover.
Determine distance ''C" (total stroke length) the drill must trav-
el to perform the drilling operation.
Loosen cap screw securing yoke assembly to quill and posi-
tion yoke assembly on quill so distance ''D" is approximately
5/8" (16 mm) greater than distance ''C".
Tighten cap screw, securing yoke assembly to quill.
Loosen nut securing cap screw ''A" and turn cap screw so the
distance between the head of the screw and control valve
equals distance ''C".
Tighten nut, securing cap screw ''A".
Replace side cover and secure.
Attach air supply to tool.

SET- - UP PROCEDURE
(FE054B- - ( )- - ( )EU and FE074A- -( )- -( )EU)
Determine distance ''C" (total stroke length) the drill must trav-
el to perform the drilling operation.
Loosen the cap screw securing the control arm to the piston
rod and position the control arm on the piston rod approxi-
mately 1/4" (6 mm) greater distance between button bleed
valve and control arm than distance ''C". NOTE: It may be nec-
essary to use a blade type screwdriver, or similar tool, to slight-
ly spread control arm bracket for ease in positioning control
arm on piston rod.
Tighten cap screw, securing control arm to piston rod.
Loosen jam nut securing adjustment screw ''A" and turn ad-
justment screw so the distance between the end of the screw
and the striker plate equals distance ''C".
Tighten jam nut, securing adjustment screw ''A".
Loosen jam nut securing adjustment screw ''B" and turn screw
until the distance between the end of the screw and button

bleed valve is slightly greater than the distance set for adjust-
ment screw ''A".
Start the tool and let it advance until the adjustment screw ''A"
makes contact with the striker plate.
Carefully, and be aware that the tool is going to retract, turn ad-
justment screw ''B" until it depresses the button bleed valve
enough to cause the tool to retract.
Tighten jam nut, securing adjustment screw ''B" at this setting.

FEED RATE CONTROL VALVES
Turn needle valve, marked ''R" on side of tool, approximately
1--1/2 turns counterclockwise (open) from the closed position.
Turn needle valve, marked ''F" on side of tool, clockwise until
closed (do not tighten too snugly).
Start the tool and slowly turn needle valve, marked ''F", coun-
terclockwise (open) until the desired forward rate of feed is
reached.
A final adjustment of the rate of return (retract) can be made
with the needle valve marked ''R" on housing.

MANUAL OPERATION

Install a pressure bleed valve in the valve port marked ''F" at
either the top or side of valve housing. Remove the pipe plug
to use the port on the side of the housing. NOTE: The unused
port must be plugged with the pipe plug.
Depress button bleed valve marked ''F" on valve housing. The
tool will start in the forward mode and continue to feed forward
until the adjusting screw has depressed the bleed valve
marked ''R" to retract the tool.
A manual emergency retract button bleed valve is installed in
the ''R" port on either the top or side of valve housing. NOTE:
The unused port must be plugged with the pipe plug. The
manual emergency retract valve can be used to immediately
retract the tool in case of a misaligned part or other emergen-
cy.

REMOTE OPERATION

Install a pressure bleed valve in the valve port marked ''F" at
either the top or side of valve housing.
Connect the pressure bleed valve (using 1/8" [3 mm] i.d. tub-
ing) to a remote operated valve which, when actuated, feeds
air pressure to the pressure bleed valve. The pressure bleed
valve will bleed the air from the ''F" port of valve housing, caus-
ing the spool valve in the valve housing to shift to the forward
feed position, thus starting the forward stroke of the tool.
Install a pressure bleed valve in the valve port marked ''R"at
either the top or side of valve housing and connect (using 1/8"
[3 mm] i.d. tubing) to a remote MANUALLY operated valve.
This valve is used as an emergency retract in case of a part
misalignment. When properly set--up and applied, the tool will
automatically retract and return to the start position. See ''Set--
Up Procedure".
SPECIAL NOTE: The air inlet and remote ports of the valve hous-
ing have tapered pipe threads and should not require the use of
thread sealants, such as sealant tape or pipe joint compounds.
Thread sealants, when used improperly, can contaminate air pas-
sages and cause valve or tool malfunction.
