5. With transmission mount settled into the crossmember and crossmember secured to the vehicle chassis, remove jack.
6. Install shift handle and knob using instructions provided with shift knob kit.
7. Continue with necessary custom installation steps to complete install.
8. Reconnect battery.
9. Place transmission in neutral position and start as desired. Use caution when putting into gear for first time. Improper
clutch adjustment or possible presence of air in clutch release system may not allow clutch to fully disengage; causing
unintended movement of vehicle and potential harm to persons or property.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
•
All Magnum transmissions are equipped with a Reverse Inhibitor Solenoid located at the right rear of the transmission.
This solenoid is intended to keep users from unintentionally engaging reverse when traveling forward. The solenoid
can be left disconnected. If not utilized the solenoid will increase the difficulty of shifting into reverse by adding spring
pressure. To release this pressure, a 12-volt signal must be applied, allowing for easy engagement. Chevrolet Performance
Parts recommends the use of a "momentary switch" mounted in the vehicle cabin to disengage the solenoid as desired.
DO NOT remove the solenoid under any circumstances. Removal may result in unintended engagement of reverse
gear during forward travel.
•
Additional hardware may be necessary to achieve the correct speedometer calibration if using the mechanical speedometer
cable output. Many aftermarket solutions are available and are easy to install. For details please consult your CPP dealer.
•
Fluid fill can be achieved several different ways. By filling prior to installation (may leak during installation), by using
a hand pump to push fluid up into transmission fill plug from underneath the vehicle, or by removing the shifter and
pouring in fluid from inside the vehicle. If you require assistance consult your CPP dealer.
•
Magnum transmissions feature several protrusions which are intended to serve as loading or locating points during
automated portions of transmissions assembly. Additionally, other tabs may exist to protect sensitive parts during assembly
and shipping of units, such as the triangular shaped tabs found near the reverse light solenoid on the passenger side
of the transmission main case. It is generally accepted practice to modify or remove the aforementioned protrusions
as necessary to prevent interference with other vehicle components. However, please note that drastic modification to
any Chevrolet Performance product, including any modifications intended to alter or "aid" in specific functions, may void
the product's warranty. If you have questions or concerns related to this topic, please consult your CPP dealer.
•
LS1 starter (10465385) must be used to fit the CPP bell housing and the LS crate engine of your choice.
•
Transmission is set up for hydraulic clutch release. Seek aftermarket clutch master cylinder and pedal for your particular
application. Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) requires approximately 10 mm of travel to release the clutch. CSC is
a production 1998-2002 V8 Camaro/Firebird component. Most aftermarket sources will have a corresponding clutch
master cylinder that will work for this application.
•
Output shaft requires a 31 spline slip yoke (not included). Seek aftermarket sources that have the correct u-joint size
for your application.
