General Safety Instructions: Tightening System
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK:
Contact with line voltage or 380 VDC.
The controller and nutrunner can conduct current in the event of a failure. An electrical shock can lead to
cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, burns, serious injury, or death.
→ Place the fastening system into service only after reading and completely understanding the following
safety instructions.
→ In addition to the above mentioned injuries, failure to follow these instructions can result in damage of the
controller or tool and the loss of existing product warranty.
→ Turn off the controller before connecting power or tool cables, during changeover, cleaning, and taking out
of operation.
→ Do not operate the tightening system if the housing, cable, or nutrunner are damaged.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DANGER DUE TO UNEXPECTED MOTOR START OR AN EXPECTED, BUT MISSING, MOTOR
STOP
Despite redundant controller parts and monitoring functions, in very rare cases an unexpected motor start can
occur.
Possible reasons:
1) Remote control of diagnostic functions.
2) Bit dump in the controller memory.
Mechanical hazards such as jars/jolts due to torque reaction; risk of injury due to entanglement can result from
the nutrunner.
For many nutrunner sizes, the possible torque reaction can be controlled (refer to DIN EN 60745-2-6).
→ Reaction bar requirements: refer to "Specific safety instructions for Hand-Held Electric Nutrunner" in this
manual.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DANGER DUE TO INCORRECT TQ MEASUREMENT:
An undetected NOK tightening could have life-threatening consequences.
→ Recalibrating (or capacity analysis) is essential following incorrect use (crash, mechanical overload, etc.).
→ For category A tightening (VDI 2862) which are critical for safety, activate a redundancy measurement (e.g.,
current redundancy).
→ Perform regular monitoring of measuring equipment on the machines.
→ Do not use defective systems. If in doubt, contact a Cleco Sales & Service Center.
