SECTION 5
AIR INTAKE / VENTING
Outside Combustion Air Supply
The Heatstar AG heater is approved for installation with an outside
air supply system that requires fresh air at normal atmospheric
pressure. Some compounds such as halogenated hydrocarbons or
other corrosive chemicals in the air can be drawn into the equipment
and cause an accelerated rate of corrosion of some of the heater
components. The use of such chemical compounds near the
enclosure should be avoided.
It is recommended that inlet air be drawn in from the attic but you
may also draw inlet air from the sidewall for houses without an attic
(See figures 11A and 1 1B). Air inlet terminations shall not be affected
by building ventilation fans. Air intake kit, F11 1756, is available for
purchase to complete the installation when drawing air through the
attic. When drawing air through the sidewall supplies will have to be
obtained through an outside source.

IMPORTANT:

•DO NOT draw inlet air from inside the poultry confinement
area.
•If the attic has a slight negative pressure or contaminants
are present in the air, an outside combustion air supply to the
heaters is strongly recommended.
•The pressure switch will not close causing the heater not to
operate if the intake is blocked by insulation in the attic. We
recommend double checking that the intake isn't blocked after
initial installation as well as in betweeen flocks when it is
known that the attic has blown in and loose insulation.
•Always attach your air inlet system to the burner box with
a flexible section. This piece should be free of kinks and as
straight as possible, no more than one 90° bend.

WARNING
Failure to provide a fresh air inlet in poultry farms can lead to:
- Sooting causing damage
- High carbon monoxide levels, causing serious injury or death to
livestock and humans
- Higher temperature differences over the length of the tubes,
causing problems in temperature control and bird performance.
Ventilation
1.
Ventilation equal to 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/HR firing rate must be
provided in unvented heater installations
2.
For dimensions A "unvented" refer to ( Figure 1- Minimum
Clearances to Combustibles.)
3.
Refer to ANSI Z223.1 - latest revision, NFPA-54 and local codes
for additional information.
