LEAK INSPECTION
1.
Start the engine and run the A/C system on maximum for 5 to 10 minutes to circulate the dye.
The system must contain enough refrigerant to operate the compressor and circulate the dye in
order to find leaks.
2.
Turn off the engine. Inspect possible leak areas with a UV, violet, or blue light lamp. For best
results, use a high-intensity Tracerline
will glow a bright yellow-green. The fluorescence will be brightest under low light conditions.
3.
To find smaller leaks, operate the A/C system over the next 24 to 48 hours and reinspect.
4.
Cleanup/reinspection—After the leaks are repaired, clean the remaining dye from the leak sites
with Tracerline GLO-AWAY™ PLUS or a shop cleaner. Check with the lamp to be sure all dye
residue has been removed. Residual dye could give a false leak indication.
5.
Run the A/C system another 5 to 10 minutes and reinspect with the lamp. No glow means all
leaks have been repaired.
DYE DOSE
If known, use the amount of lubricant in the A/C system to determine the dye dose. Each line on the
cartridge equals 1/8 fl oz (3.7 ml) of dye.
