FOR 1994 TO 1998 MODELS
Remove strap from hitch, re-use washer and nuts for installation
1.
Enlarge the second hole from the end of the frame (existing1/2") to 5/8". Repeat for the other side.
2.
Place a 5/8" hex bolt and bolt plate into the second hole from the end of the frame. Repeat for the other side. NOTE: Short bed trucks will need to remove the exhaust hanger bracket. It will be
replaced later. Loosen the top bumper bracket bolt. Turn the tab that is fastened to it up so it is out of the 1/2" hole in the bottom of the frame.
3.
Lift the hitch up and place the rear holes in the bracket over the bolts. Install 5/8" flat washers, lock washers, and nuts.
4.
Install 1/2" carriage bolts with bolt plates into the remaining holes in the frame. NOTE: Use the small bolt plates for the middle bolts. Install 1/2" serrated washers, lock washers, and nuts. See the
diagram above. For short beds, the last hole needs to be drilled. Using the hole in the bracket as a guide, drill a 1/2" hole into the frame. Insert a 1/2" carriage bolt with bolt plate into this hole.
Install 1/2" serrated washers, lock washers, and nuts on the remaining bolts.
5.
For short beds: Turn the exhaust hanger bracket around so it faces the opposite direction. The rubber bushing should be facing toward the outside. Slide it back on the exhaust pipe rod. Push the
exhaust pipe down so there is clearance between the hitch bracket and the tailpipe. Clamp the exhaust bracket in place over the 3/8" diameter hole in the hitch bracket. Drill a 3/8" hole through the
exhaust bracket using the hitch bracket as a guide. Fasten the exhaust bracket to the hitch bracket with the bolt and nut that you removed.
6.
Tighten all ½" GR5 fasteners with torque wrench to 75 Lb.-Ft. (102 N*M) and all 5/8' GR5 fasteners with torque wrench to 115 Lb.-Ft. (156 N*M)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or
ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
