PRECAUTIONS
All PestWest traps are fully insulated, Class I appliances,
nevertheless, sensible precautions should be observed:
• WARNING! DO NOT OPEN WHEN ENERGISED
• AFTER DE-ENERGISING, WAIT 55 MINUTES BEFORE OPENING
FOR SERVICING OR MAINTENANCE
• KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN
• FOR INDOOR USE ONLY
• DEFECTIVE LAMPS MUST BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY
• USE ONLY PESTWEST F18W/T8/2ft/BL/QUANTUM LAMPS
• ENSURE THE UNIT IS PROPERLY EARTHED.
• DO NOT ALLOW THE GLUE BOARD TO BECOME OVERFILLED
WITH DEAD INSECTS. CHANGE AT REGULAR INTERVALS AS
REQUIRED BY THE CATCH OR AT LEAST EVERY 8 WEEKS
• AFTER 10 YEARS SERVICE LIFE WITHIN A POTENTIALLY
HAZARDOUS AREA, RELOCATE THE CHAMELEON EXG TO A
NON-HAZARDOUS AREA (ONLY IN OPERATIONAL
CONDITION).
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
PestWest flytraps are made using the highest quality materials. The Chameleon EXG has a total anti-
corrosive construction including 304 brushed stainless steel, marine grade aluminium alloy and a 7mm
thick borosilicate glass enclosure.
Ratings and Approvals:
CE marked and certified to the European Directive 94/9/EC equipment intended for use in potentially
explosive atmospheres.
The Chameleon EXG professional flytrap has been designed for installation in designated hazardous
environments and has been tested for compliance to the highest standards applicable within the
European community for this grade of product. However, the zoning classification for explosive

environments requires proper interpretation and each installation must be judged on its merits.
PestWest Electronics are able to provide upon request, copies of independent safety test certificates
applicable to this model, to enable a suitable assessment to be made for a particular installation and
no claims other than those therein identified on the certificates are expressed or implied. It is the
ultimate responsibility of the installer to ensure that the Chameleon EXG is suitable for a particular
environment.
The Chameleon EXG is suitable for Zone 1, Zone 21, Zone 2 and Zone 22 areas where there may be
potential for explosive atmospheres in the form of gases and vapours or dust, i.e.: Alcohol distillery,
sugar factories and flour mills. The chameleon EXG also has an IP66 rating.
UNPACKING YOUR UNIT
Each unit is carefully inspected and packed before leaving our factory. Before discarding the outer
carton, examine for obvious evidence of transport damage. Remove the unit carefully and pay
particular attention to the removal of all packing materials including any transit packing. Save the
packing materials for future use.
MODE OF OPERATION
Electrical flytraps operate on the principle that most flying insects are attracted to light, particularly to
the ultraviolet (UV) end of the light spectrum. This light is invisible to humans, however the tubes glow
blue which indicates that they are functioning.
The efficiency of a trap can be affected by the intensity of other competing sources of light, particularly
daylight (see "Siting").
Since insects are still active and will fly at night (when competition from other light sources is normally
lowest), traps should be left operating continuously, i.e.: 24 hours a day.
SITING
There are so many locations of possible use of fly traps that it is impossible to give one set of
recommendations to cover all requirements or situations. These general guidelines are given in the
knowledge that some of them apparently conflict with others. Users should adopt those that best fit
their needs or seek expert advice.
As a general rule:
Electric fly traps should be positioned to minimise competition from other light sources, so do not
mount adjacent to windows.
In food areas, mount the trap close to, but not directly over, exposed food or food preparation surfaces
(preferably to attract flies away from food preparation areas).
Observe where the flies tend to congregate and if possible, put your fly trap, in or close to that area.
Position traps in an "interception" position from the principal point of fly entry - normally doors and/or
windows. In some cases, flies are more likely to come in through the back door rather than the front,
because that is where the refuse and dustbins are kept. Mount the trap in a convenient location for
changing the sticky board, and clear of any traffic, such as forklift trucks, which may use the area.
Position units where they can be reached as easily as possible and not over working machinery where
access may be difficult or dangerous.
COVERAGE
Areas of attraction of flies/coverage are given in the data sheet for each unit. It should be noted that
the brighter the surrounding light, the greater the number of units which may be required for a given
area. For general applications the Chameleon EXG will cover 120 m2.
INSTALLATION
The Chameleon EXG must be installed by authorised (and qualified) personnel only. The warranty will
be void if the product is modified in any way or used incorrectly. Installation and/or maintenance
personnel must check the compatibility (ratings, certifications codes etc.) of this equipment with the
environmental and regulatory conditions of the site. Compliance of the rating label with the power
supply must be verified. Transportation and storage must be done within the original packing. We
recommend storing the Chameleon EX G in a clean, dry and aerated environment at a temperature
between -10°C and 30°C.
The Chameleon EXG is designed to be wall-mounted vertically in industrial
premises, a wall-mounting bracket is supplied with the unit. Using the wall
bracket as a template, mark off the four fixing points on the mounting surface.
Screws and plugs are provided to fix the bracket in place, see figure 1. If the wall
is of plasterboard or stud partition etc, suitable blind fixings must be used
capable of taking the weight of the unit and to ensure it is securely positioned.
Remove the sticky boards and move the sticky board holders into a suitable
position as not to obstruct installation. Align the four hooks on the back of the
Chameleon EXG main bracket with the four holes on the wall bracket and hook
the Chameleon EXG unit securely onto the bracket. Using the M6 grub screw
provided, permanently secure the unit to the wall-mounting bracket by
tightening by hand the grub screw through the hole in the centre of the
Chameleon EXG main bracket. To do so, place either sticky board holder against
the wall or mounting surface and reach the hole for the grub screw from behind
the back of the unit, see figure 2.
