scratches reduce vision.
Inspect that the welding filter lens is undam-
aged and clean. The damaged welding filter lens
impairs protection and visibility and must be re-
placed immediately.
Make sure that the shade number of welding fil-
ter lens is appropriate for your work (according to
6. Filter shade number selection").
Inspect that the welding hood and headgear are
undamaged.
Inspect that welding shield is completely closed
when lowered.
Headband adjustment
1. Height adjustment for headband: Adjust the
headband height so, that the band part circu-
lating the head is positioned relatively low. This
way welding hood stays well on the head. The
padding should be a little above the eyebrows.
Height can be adjusted from the top of the head
gear.
2. Adjustment of welding hood angle: Adjust the
welding hood angle in regard to your face so
that the lower edge of welding hood is posi-
tioned near your chest in the welding position.
This way the welding hood provides the best
protection.
3. Tension adjustment of head harness: Adjust
the band tightness by rotating the adjusting
wheel positioned in the back of the band.
4. Tension adjustment of welding hood: Adjust
the tightness of welding hood in regard to head
harness by rotating the two thumb screws on
the sides. Adjust the tightness of hood so, that
the high raised hood stays up, but goes down
when you nod your head. If the hood strikes
against your chest when falling, the adjustment
is too loose or the hood angle has been adjust-
ed too near your chest from the limiter.
Filter adjustment
Shade adjustment: Model CA-20 DS enables sha-
de adjustment range from 9 to 13. CA-20 GDS has
two shade ranges, i.e. 6-8 and 9-13. It can be ad-
justed by the knob »Range« which is located on
the filter. The external knob for shade adjustment
has two shade ranges (6-8 and 9-13) marked in two
different typefaces (positive and negative). The ad-
justment of the knob »Range« defines the range
which is being used.
Sensitivity adjustment: Most welding applications
can be performed with welding light sensitivity set
to maximum. The welding light sensitivity has to be
reduced only in certain specific surrounding ligh-
ting conditions in order to avoid unwanted trigge-
ring. As a simple rule for optimum performance, it
is recommended to set sensitivity to the maximum
at the beginning and then gradually reduce it, until
the filter reacts only to the welding light flashes.
4
Opening time delay adjustment: The opening time
delay can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1.0 seconds. It
is recommended to use a shorter delay with spot
welding applications and a longer delay with appli-
cations using higher currents and longer welding
intervals. Longer delay can also be used for low
current TIG welding in order to prevent the filter
opening when the light path to the sensors is tem-
porarily obstructed by a hand, torch, etc.
Function welding/grinding: CA-20 Plus GDS
electro-optical welding filter can be used for both
welding and grinding applications. By selecting the
position »Grind«, the filter switches off and it will
not be triggered by the sparks generated during
grinding. Before restarting welding work, the knob
should be set back to the »Weld« position.
Cleaning:
After each work shift, clean the head section,
check individual parts, and replace damaged
parts.
Cleaning must be performed in a room with suf-
ficient ventilation. Avoid inhalation of harmful
dust settled on individual parts!
For cleaning, use lukewarm water (up to +40 °C)
with soap or other non-abrasive detergent, and
a soft brush.
It is prohibited to use cleaning agents with sol-
vents.
After cleaning individual parts with a  damp
cloth, it is necessary to rub them dry, or let
them dry at room temperature.
For care about the visors and plastic parts is
recommended to use the CleanAIR® ®klar-pilot
fluids.
Do not use dishwasher or dryer!
Do not use acetone or other cleaning solvents!
It is always necessary to keep the solar cells and
the light sensors of the auto-darkening welding fil-
ter free of dust and spatter: cleaning can be done
with a soft tissue or a cloth soaked in mild detergent
(or alcohol). Never use solvents such as acetone.
4. Assembly
Auto-darkening welding filter and protection
plates assembly / DS /
1. Insert the inner protection plate on the inner side
of the auto-darkening welding filter
2. Insert the auto-darkening welding filter from the
front side of the hood. Start from the bottom so
that the filter can hook into the lower holder and
then snap the upper part so that it snaps in the
upper holder
3. Insert the external protective plate in the frame
into the grooves on the both sides by bending it.
4. Close the hood with the external frame cover.
