Switching On and Off (Fig. 1)
Switching on: press the on/off switch (A) towards
the I (ON) on the casing.
Switching off: press the on/off switch towards the O
(OFF) on the casing.
Sanding
WARNING: Venting area may become
hot with excessive use.
WARNING: ALWAYS use proper hand
position when using this sander (Fig. 6).
• Start with the coarsest grit size.
• Move the tool in long, sweeping
strokes.
• Check your work at short intervals.
WARNING: Always switch off the
tool when work is finished and before
unplugging.
Consult your dealer for further information on the
appropriate accessories.
Replacing the Sanding Belt (Fig. 2)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury, be sure sander is turned off and
disconnected from the power supply
when changing the sanding belt. Before
reconnecting the tool, make sure the
switch (A) is in the off position.
TO REPLACE THE BELT
1. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (D) clockwise until
front roller (C) retracts and releases the tension
on the belt (F).
2. Remove the worn out belt.
3. Slip a new belt around the wheels.
WARNING: Severe laceration hazard.
If installed backwards, monodirectional
sanding belts may not track properly
and may overhang the housing, possibly
causing severe lacerations.
4. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (D)
counterclockwise into position to reapply
tension to the belt.
MAINTENANCE
Your D
WALT power tool has been designed to

operate over a long period of time with a minimum
of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation
depends upon proper tool care and regular
cleaning.
WARNING: To reduce the risk
of serious personal injury, turn
tool off and disconnect tool from
power source before making any
adjustments or removing/installing
attachments or accessories. Be sure
the trigger switch is in the OFF position.
An accidental start-up can cause injury.
To Replace the Platen/cork (Fig. 1, 5)
The cork under the platen on your belt sander may
require replacement at some point during the life of
the tool. A new platen/cork is available through a
D
WALT authorized service centre.

1. Remove the sanding belt as previously
described.
2. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (D)
counterclockwise to the clamp position.
3. Remove the plastic cover from right side of
platen by removing the four screws (M) using a
flat head or Torx 20 screwdriver.
4. Slide old platen/cork (I) out.
5. Slide the new platen/cork into the sander and
discard the old one.
6. Reinstall the plastic cover and make sure the
tracking spring is installed correctly.
7. Install a sanding belt as previously described.
Lubrication
Your power tool requires no additional lubrication.
Cleaning
WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of
the main housing with dry air as often as
dirt is seen collecting in and around the
air vents. Wear approved eye protection
and approved dust mask when
performing this procedure.
WARNING: Never use solvents or
other harsh chemicals for cleaning the
non-metallic parts of the tool. These
chemicals may weaken the materials
used in these parts. Use a cloth
dampened only with water and mild
soap. Never let any liquid get inside the
tool; never immerse any part of the tool
into a liquid.
