WARNINGS:
• TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH; TURN OFF
POWER at circuit breaker or fuse and test that
power is off before wiring!
To Install:
1. Lift cover to maximum open position on hinge.
2. Choose wire gauge:
For 30 AMP use #10 to #6 AWG
For 50 AMP use #8 to #6 AWG
3. Determine the cord diameter and strain relief clamp positions as follows:
A. Place cord into gauge marked ".7 DIA." on base, as shown in Fig. 1. If cord fits inside this gauge, place
the green strain relief clamp in location shown in Fig. 2A with "-.70 DIA." marking facing upward. This
location is suitable for #10 AWG round cord.
B. If cord is too wide to fit inside gauge, and is NOT #6 cord, place the green clamp in location shown in
Fig. 2B, with "+.70 DIA." marking facing upward. This location is most suitable for #8 round cord.
C. For #6 cord (approximately one inch in diameter), place the green clamp in location shown in
Fig. 2C, with "+.70 DIA." marking facing upward.
4. Strip and cut insulation and conductors using strip gauge on plug cover or Fig. 3 and instructions below.
A. Strip 2-7/16 (2.43) inches of jacket from end of cord.
B. Cut red and black conductors to 1-11/16 (1.7) inches.
C. Cut white conductor to 1-3/16 (1.19) inches.
D. Strip 5/8 (.625) inch of insulation from ends of all conductors.
5. Insert only the stripped end of the white conductor into the terminal clamp with the silver screw on the "L" blade for the 30 Amp installation or the flat
blade for the 50 Amp installation. Tighten terminal clamp securely with screw head facing left as shown in Fig. 4.
6. Insert only the stripped ends of the red and black conductors into the two terminal clamps with brass screws on the two flat blades and tighten terminal
clamp screws securely, with screw heads facing left and right, as shown in Fig. 4.
7. Inset only the stripped end of the green ground wire into the terminal clamp with the green screw on the U-shaped blade and tighten the green terminal
screw clamp securely, with the screw head facing left, as shown in Fig. 4.
8. Insert blades into their proper slots in plug face, as shown in Fig. 5, with white (neutral) conductor in bottom slot, the red and black conductors in the
center slots and the green conductor in the U-shaped slot. Recheck tightness of terminal screws.
CAUTION: Make sure there are no stray wire strands on any terminal connection.
NOTE: There is a built-in rejection feature that will prevent cover from closing if blades are not positioned properly. If cover does not close, recheck
blades to make sure they are wired and positioned properly.
9. Close cover firmly and tighten with two assembly screws provided.
