Information for use
sera algovec UV
Please read these instructions carefully and keep for future use. When forwarding this unit to third parties,
this information for use is also to be handed over.
Thank you for choosing the UV unit sera algovec UV. This
system, which has been successfully in use for years as a
component of the sera marin Biotop Cube 130, is now
available for pathogen and algae control in freshwater
aquariums in combination with the new adjustable sera
filter and feed pump FP 350 in a compact casing.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Please read and observe by all means!
WARNING:
Dangerous ultraviolet radiation!
• Never look directly into the UV-C lamp without pro-
tection when it is operating (eye damage!).
• This unit contains a UV-C lamp.
• UV-C radiation can harm the eyes and the skin even
in low dosage.
• Unintentional operation of the unit or damaging the
casing of the UV-C lamp may lead to dangerous radi-
ation being emitted.
• The sera UV-C lamp must only be operated with the
duly and completely assembled sera UV-C System.
Any other use may lead to skin and eye damage!
• The UV-C lamp and its casing are a firm unit that can-
not be opened.
• The UV-C lamp cannot be repaired but only replaced.
• Always keep UV units and UV-C lamps out of the reach
of children!
• All electric devices must be disconnected from the
mains supply before conducting any work at the UV
unit.
• Operate all devices only with an interconnected resid-
ual current protective device (RCD, 30 mA).
• Never operate the UV-C system and the pump with-
out water flow!
• Make sure there already is sufficient water flow through
the sera UV-C System when switching on the UV-C
lamp. A minimum flow rate must be ensured also dur-
ing operation.
• Frequent "ON/OFF" switching reduces the life expec-
tancy of the UV-C lamp.
• Make sure the plug of the switched-on device is al-
ways freely accessible.
• The transformer and the ballast must be protected
against water.
• All electrical units located in the water must be dis-
connected from the mains/power supply before con-
ducting work at the aquarium.
• Make sure that the voltage of the mains supply com-
plies with the data on the type plate.
• Bend the mains cord into a drip loop as to prevent
water running along the cable into the socket.
• The units must not be operated in case the electrical
cords are damaged.
Application range
sera UV-C Systems reliably remove all kinds of floating
algae and reduce the multiplication of thread and other
algae without applying chemicals. Pathogens and bac-
terial water cloudiness are also removed lastingly.
Pathogenic pollution of the aquarium water can be reli-
ably prevented with the UV unit sera algovec UV, espe-
cially in marine water where using biocides is problem-
atic.
The effect of the UV-C lamp is merely physical and re-
stricted only of the water flowing through, the inhabit-
ants of the aquarium and the filter organisms are not
harmed.
Application
The UV-C lamp can only be operated in firm connection
with the sera filter and feed pump FP 350 (1.4). The
UV-C lamp does not have an own circulation system and
is therefore offered in a kit with the robust filter pump in
a compact casing.
The efficiency of the device against floating algae and
pathogens depends on the flow rate. The slower the
water flows past the pump, the longer is the duration of
irradiation and pathogens can be killed more effective-
ly, e.g. in case of a fish disease. The adjustability (1.4.1)
of the FP 350 can therefore increase the efficiency of the
UV-C lamp as required.

Assembly instruction
The UV unit sera algovec UV is pre-assembled. The unit
is connected directly to the feed pump and the outlet of
the internal filter. The water flows back into the aquari-
um via the outlet opening and the flow distributor with
two flow nozzles (1.6) of the internal filter.
