Note
The sensor installation holes must be drilled in the positions marked on the inside of the bumper cover.
Remove the bumper cover.
ELSA; Repair Group 63
Punch the drilling points on the interior side of the bumper cover.
Pre-drill with a 2 mm drill.
Liberally apply adhesive tape in the areas where the holes are to be drilled in order to protect the visible side of the
bumper covering.
Drill the holes from the outside with a 20 mm Forstner drill bit.
To counter the rotation of the sensors, an upward-pointing notch -arrow- about 1 mm deep is needed in the boreholes.
File an upward-pointing notch -arrow- in all 4 boreholes using a small triangular file.
Deburr the holes for the sensors in the bumper cover.
Page 3 - Figure 1
Note
The following steps can only be completed after the paint is completely dry.
◆
The correct position of the sensors can be seen using the markings -1- on the sensor supports -2-, these must point
◆
upwards.
Press the retaining clips together and push the sensor support -1- into the installation hole of the bumper covering.
Press the fixations together and press the sensor support -3- flush into the bumper covering.
Page 3 - Figure 2
Position the sealing rings -3- on the sensors -2-.
Clip the sensors -2- into the sensor supports -1-.
Note
The sensors -2- can be clipped in as shown, or turned by 180°. The function is identical in both installation positions.
This allows you to react to confined space conditions in the bumper covering.
Check if the retaining clips of the sensors -4- have engaged correctly -arrow- into the sensor support -5-.
Page 3 - Figure 3
Insert the plug from the sensor wiring harness supplied into the sensor. Wire "1" starts at the right sensor in the
driving direction, wires "2" to "4" are arranged consecutively.
Secure the sensor wiring harness to the bumper cover -arrows- using socket cable ties supplied.
Page 4 - Figure 1
Remove the original grommet -arrow- to the left rear on the underside of the vehicle.
Note
If a wire and wiring grommet are already fitted (e.g. for vehicles with towing hitch) rather than a sealing plug -arrow-,
remove the wiring grommet from the supplied sensor wiring harness. Widen the existing grommet using a pair of crimp
grip pliers and pull the sensor wiring harness through this into the vehicle interior. If it is not possible to widen the
grommet, make an extra hole in the existing wiring grommet and pull the sensor wiring harness through this into the
vehicle interior. Seal the additional drilled hole with a suitable sealant.
Refit the bumper covering in the reverse order. In doing so, pull the sensor wiring harness into the luggage
compartment.
Fit the wiring grommet where necessary.
Page 4 - Figure 2
Note
The plug on the power wiring harness and sensor wiring harness are designed such a manner that they can only be
plugged into the connector socket -1- or -2- on the control unit.
Insert the power wiring harness connector socket into socket -1- "J1 MAIN" on the control unit until you feel it click
into place.
Insert the sensor wiring harness connector socket into socket -2- "J2 SENSORS" on the control unit until you feel
it click into place.

Degrease the fitting location of the control unit -1- in the luggage compartment on the left with a suitable cleaning
agent.
