1. Remove spare tire – Remove spare tire for installation. See vehicle owner's manual for spare tire removal.
2. Trim exhaust flap – Locate the flap near the exhaust muffler outlet and trim as shown in Figure 1.
3. Remove underbody panels– If present, remove plastic appearance panels which cover driver's and/or passenger's side frame rails. Remove the
plastic rivets that fasten the fascia tabs to the appearance panel. Note: Remove the center of the rivet with a small screwdriver. Passenger's side panel
can be reinstalled later. Return drivers' side panel and fasteners to owner or trim to clear hitch brackets.
4. Trim fascia tabs – Locate the (4) plastic fascia tabs at the rear, remove the plastic rivets that attach the tab to the metal bracket. Trim the plastic tab
to clear room for the hitch. See figure 2
5. Remove tow hooks– Remove tow hooks from each frame rail (if present) and return hooks and fasteners to vehicle owner.
6. Remove plugs - Remove plastic and rubber plugs from bottom of both frame rails. Return to owner. NOTE: Make sure that vehicle weldnuts are free
from rust and debris and remove excess caulk if needed.
7. Raise hitch into position - Be careful not to pinch hoses on the outside of the passenger side frame rail or scratch fascia. Align hitch into position over
existing weldnuts as shown and install M12 bolts and conical washers (Teeth side toward hitch) to bottom of frame rails. Note: Existing fascia tab should
be reinstalled between frame rail and bracket.
8. Tighten all M12 CL8.8 bolts with torque wrench to 76 Lb.-Ft. (103 N*M)
9. Reinstall Underbody panels and spare tire - Reinstall the trimmed underbody panels using the original hardware removed earlier. Reinstall the
spare tire. Note: You may need to manipulate the rear edge of the spare while raising to clear the hitch.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe
safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
