Safety instructions
Make sure that any person installing, taking into operation
and operating the Shutter Valve type RDR-MK:
• is technically qualified and competent
• fully complies with these assembling instructions
Improper operations or misuse could cause danger to:
• life and limb
• the equipment and other assets of the operator
• the equipment proper function
Opening of the device will void your warranty.
Safety instructions in this manual are shown in three
different forms to emphasize important information.

Safety notes on the equipment operation
Electrical installation is subject to the relevant national
safety rules.
It is mandatory to connect the grounding cable because of
safety reason.
CAUTION
Installation, electrical connection and fitting the device may only
be carried out by qualified personnel and only in accordance to
this instruction manual. It is responsibility of the user to make
sure that the device is used for specified application only.
For safety matters, please avoid any unauthorized and
improperly works.

All relevant fire protection regulation must be strictly observed.

NOTE

Product description

RDR-MK II shutter valve is used to avoid an important oil
loss which may happen due to a serious accident (for
instance a break of the porcelain bushing caused by an
atmospheric discharge , a break in the transformer tank
caused by an accidental hit..).
WARNING
It is important to observe the limit values indicated on
the nameplate and in the operating instruction before
commissioning the device.
It is very important to verify that the shutter valve is open before to
start to operate

Installation

Assembly
CAUTION
The operating and installation requirements described in this
manual must be strictly followed. If not, the device can be
damaged or a malfunction may occur.
CAUTION
The transformer cannot operates with closed shutter valve as
this could cause an explosion with great damages to people
and plant. We strongly recommend to the user to reset the
shutter valve always after its operating and before to set the
transformer at work.
The shutter valve has to be installed between the conser-
vator and the Buchholz relay.
It is also possible to connect the shutter valve in series
with the Buchholz relay.
The red arrow on the upper part of the shutter valve indi-
cates the direction towards the conservator.
After the transformer is filled with oil, it is necessary to
breathe out the air from the shutter valve by opening the
upper petcocks.
During transformer vacuum process, the disk valve should
be kept locked in open position. It is recommended to
hook a weight (of 5 kg) on the reset lever.
When the shutter valve activates (closing of the disk valve)
the shutter valve should be restored (opening of the disk
valve) in order to re-energize the transformer. To do this,
it is necessary to pull down the reset lever; then the air
should be bled through the upper petcock. It is advised to
verify the correct working of the electric contacts by using
the mechanical test push button; after this operation it is
necessary to reset the shutter valve through the reset lever.
