Carbon Canister Filter Service
The foam carbon canister filter must be cleaned or replaced

extremely dusty conditions.

Remove outer engine shroud (if equipped) and recoil
starter housing as shown in Figure 6-3.

3.
Remove cap from end of canister and pull out round
foam filter from inside the assembly. See Figure 6-4. Clean
element or replace when damaged.
4.
To clean foam element, wash in mild liquid detergent and
water. Squeeze or press the foam element to rinse out dirt
and water. Do not twist, this could damage or tear the foam
element. Allow to dry thoroughly before using. Oil the
foam element with a light engine oil.
5.
Carefully place foam filter back into canister assembly and
reattach the rubber cap removed earlier.
6.
Snap the carbon canister filter assembly back into place
under the inner engine shroud. See Figure 6-5 inset.
IMPORTANT: Be sure the angled nipple points upwards
into the shroud to avoid interference with the autochoke
linkage.

7.
Place the inner engine shroud back onto the engine. Fasten
the recoil starter housing back down and reattach the
outer engine shroud.
IMPORTANT: Be sure not to pinch/kink any of the vent lines
when re-installing the engine shroud. A pinched/kinked
vent line will cause the engine to stall.
