4.2) Connector crimping
– From the table B select the containing die and indentor recommended for the conductor size.
– Insert the indentor PS 230... (88) into the ram (2) by pulling knob (20).
– Insert the conductor in the connector.
– Locate the connector into the containing die (89), positioning the containing die into the fork
(5), pushing it until locked in the operating position (when the grooves on the sides of the dies
correspond with the grub screws (8) on the arms of the fork).
Commence indent crimping from the barrel end for both splices and terminals, following the
sequence in FIG. 1.
– Each indenting operation is completed when indentor and die are fully closed; it is recommended
to continue pumping until the maximum pressure valve is activated and a "click" is heard (see § 6.3).
5. CRIMPING OF CONNECTORS ON ALUMINIUM CABLES FOR SECTION
The head RHU231 can also be used on connectors with a section of less than 300 mm
accessories common to 130 kN Cembre tools along with the appropriate adaptor as follows:
– AU231-PS/E, used for PS.../E indentors (see § 5.1).
– AU231-150/N, used for the seat of the dies and for the upper part of the pre-rounding dies for
sections up to 150 mm
– AU231-240/N, used for the seat of the dies and for the upper part of the pre-rounding dies for
sections from 185 to 240 mm
– AU231-P, used for the seat of the lower part of the pre-rounding dies (see § 5.1).
5.1) Fitting adaptors into the ram seat
– Adaptors AU231-PS/E and AC231-P must be inserted into the seat of the ram (2) by pulling knob
(20); when completely inserted, release knob (20).
5.2) Fitting adaptors into the fork guides
– The adaptors AU231-150/N and AU231-240/N must be inserted into the guides of the fork and
pushed until locked in the operating position (when the grooves on the sides of the dies cor-
respond with the grub screws (8) on the arms of the fork (5).
5.3) Pre-rounding of sector cables
– Insert adaptors AC 231-P and AU231-.../N into the head (see § 5.1 and § 5.2).
– Select the pre-rounding dies to be used, according to table A.
– Locate the lower part of the pre-rounding die on adaptor AC231-P by pulling knob (20).
– Position the conductor in the upper part of the pre-rounder die, then insert this into adaptor
AU231.../N. Make sure that the upper grooving on the pre-rounder die coincides with the pins
inside the adaptor.
– Operate the pump until the lower and upper parts of the pre-rounder crimp the conductor; free
the conductor which will now be reduced to a round, compact form, releasing the pressure on
the pump (see § 6.4).
5.4) Connector crimping
– Select upper and lower adaptors consulting table B and insert them into the head (see § 5.1 and
§ 5.2).
– Select the containing die and indentor recommended for the conductor size from table B.
