Earthing the equipment
The frame of the photovoltaic module, as well as any exposed, non-current
metal parts of the fixed equipment that can be powered by the photovoltaic
system, must be connected to the equipment grounding conductor (EGC) to
prevent electric shock.
PNI recommends grounding all frames of photovoltaic modules to ensure that
the voltage between the conductive electrical equipment and grounding is zero
in all circumstances.
Adequate grounding of the equipment is achieved by connecting all metal
equipment that does not carry current, using an EGC (equipment grounding
conductor) of adequate dimensions to prevent electric shocks.
PNI photovoltaic modules have an aluminum frame with corrosion resistance.
The corrosion potential due to the electrochemical action between different
metals in contact is minimized if the electrochemical voltage potential between
the different metals is low.
The grounding method must not result in direct contact of the metals with
the aluminum frame of the photovoltaic module, which will lead to galvanic
corrosion.
Metal combinations must not exceed an electrochemical potential difference
of 0.5 V. The frame rails have pre-drilled holes marked with a ground mark, as
shown in the figure below. These holes must be used for earthing and must not
be used for mounting photovoltaic modules. Do not make additional holes in
the frame.
