attracted the attention of large numbers of
musicians who gradually transformed the
instrument until an instrument maker in Vienna
patented the first model in 1829. Today it is
played all over the world.
This accordion is specially designed for young
musicians. It is smaller and has fewer keys, just
the right size!
1. Parts of the accordion:
1. Bellows
2. 7 Keys (corresponding to two octaves)
3. Thumb strap
4. Harmonic accompaniment
5. Bass accompaniment
6. Air valve
7. Strap
2. Description and playing position
The accordion makes sounds as the bellows go
in and out, moving air over a set of reeds inside
the instrument.
Before picking up the accordion, put the card
with the colour-coded notes onto it. To hold it,
put your left hand through the long strap on the
side and your right thumb through the short
strap on the other side. You will find that the
fingers of your right hand are in a good position
to reach the keys.
The fingers of your left hand are used to play the
three keys on the other side.
Each of the 7 keys on the right hand side has a
number and makes two different notes, one
when the accordion is compressed and another
when it is expanded. This means that in total it
produces 14 different notes covering two
octaves. An octave is one sequence of the notes
C-D-E-F-G-A-B. The first octave on the
accordion is lower in pitch and is represented by
the keys:
The second octave is higher in pitch and is
represented by the keys:
Bear in mind that the note
is separated from the other notes in that octave.
Also, it is played outwards, like note
though they come one after the other.
The left hand keys are the harmonics, the bass
and the air valve. The harmonics and bass can
be played as an accompaniment while the
accordion and the third key are used to pump air
through the accordion. You will discover this
while you learn.
When you pick up the accordion you will see the
symbols from above, as shown in the following
table. Here you will also see how the symbols
correspond to the notes. The arrows pointing
outwards mean that you have to play the key
whilst expanding the accordion. The arrows
pointing inwards mean that you have to play the
key whilst compressing the accordion.
3. Start by playing the notes of the first octave,
playing close attention to the symbols that tell
you to "expand" or "compress".
You'll notice that you have just played a full
scale and you will have noticed a pattern in the
notes. Due to the position of the reeds inside the
instrument, this pattern is inverted when you
reach the fourth key. Using these simple notes
and with practice you can begin to play the
songs we suggest.

in the first octave
l'attention de nombreux musiciens qui le
transformèrent petit à petit, jusqu'à ce qu'un
even
