The DULCOTEST
DO sensors are used to measure the concentra-
tion of dissolved oxygen in water. Applications include in particular
the control and monitoring of aeration processes in sewage plants,
the monitoring of fish farming plants, aeration of raw water in
waterworks and appraising the quality of surface waters.

Design and function

The DULCOTEST
®
DO sensor comprises basically a sensor insert
and a transmitter. The two sensor types (DO1 and DO2) differ in their
design, in the applications for which they are used and in their
measurement ranges. The DO 1 is designed as a probe-type sensor
and is designed for fish farming plants, waterworks and surface water
testing. In the DO 2 the sensor is integrated into a float. DO 2 is
intended specifically for use in activated sludge pools in sewage
plants. The two designs are used in the same way. The two
transmitters also function in the same way. The measurement signal
is picked up by the sensor insert and converted into calibrated and
temperature-corrected 4-20 mA signals. The measured value is
output in ppm (mg/l) oxygen concentration. The electrically isolated
sensor can be connected directly to the DULCOMETER
controller for the measured variable oxygen or to a PLC.
If the sensor is connected to a PLC, all corrections of the effects of
influential variables on the measured value must be taken into
account.
A membrane rupture is detected via the anode and a pin contact
which touches the measurement sample.
The DO sensors can be calibrated directly in air providing that the
oxygen partial pressure of an air-saturated body of water is the same
as the oxygen partial pressure of the water vapour-saturated atmos-
phere above it (oxygen content = 20.9 vol.-%).
