The difference of the two kits is the timer rotor
that mounts to the breaker cam. The electronic
module is the same for all ignition timers. Gene-
rally and especially with 1948 models it must be
controlled which timer model you have, and if you
have acquired the right kit.
The module works with either 6 V or 12 V battery
powered electrics. The ignition spark is up to 60%
stronger than with breaker points. There are no
moving parts on this ignition (safe for the rotor,
of couse ;-)) that can be subject to wear; therefore
once set correctly the timing will not change any-
more. Ignition advance is regulated automatically
by the module.
There is a choice of 9 different advance curve set-
tings, each one corresponding to the positions 1-9
of the module switch. Curve #1 is the most, curve
#9 the least aggressive one. Setting 0 will only be
used for carburetor adjustments as it fixes the ti-
ming to full advance at all rpm.
Kickstart timing advance can be adjusted separa-
tely from 10° - 20° before TDC. (After being kick-
started the engine will even run for about 10 sec in
kickstart mode before settling to standard mode.)
Each kit consists in the following parts:
• module and base plate
• 75 cm of wire loom
• trigger rotor, multi-piece: upper and lower
halves, 2 screws M3, 1 set screw M3
