g) Always keep proper footing and operate the pruner
only, when standing on fixed, secure and ground
level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as
ladders may cause a loss of balance or control of the
pruner.
h) Follow instructions for oiling, chain tensioning
and changing accessories. Improperly tensioned or
lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance
for kickback.
i)
Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and
grease.
Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing loss
of control.
j)
Cut wood only. Don't use pole pruner for purposes
not intended. For example: do not use pole pruner
for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building
materials.
Use of the pole pruner for operations different
than intended could result in a hazardous situation.
k) Causes and operator prevention of kickback:
- Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide
bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and
pinches the saw chain in the cut.
- Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse
reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the
operator.
- Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide
bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the
operator.
- Either of these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the pole pruner which could result in serious
personal
injury. As a pole pruner user, you should
take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from
accident or injury. Kickback is the result of tool misuse
and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions
and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as
given below:
l)
When cutting a branch be alert for kickback.
the branch is broached it can bend down and jam the
saw chain.
m) Only use replacement saw chains and bars
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement
of saw chains and bars may cause chain breakage and/
or kickback.
n) Always wait until the machine has come to a
complete stop, and remove the battery before
placing it down. The saw chain can jam or kickback and
lead to loss of control over the garden tool.
o) Switch off the pole pruner when changing the working
position.
Some regions have regulations that restrict the use of the
product. Check with your local authority for advice.
