Donning Devices with Hood
NOTICE
People wearing glasses should keep them on.
Pull the hood up.
The starter pin is pulled out of the oxygen self-rescuer.
Put on the hood.
Grasp the collar of the hood and widen it. Put your chin into the
collar first, then pull the hood over your head.
Push long hair completely under the hood.
Move the inner mask in front of the mouth and nose.
Ensure that the breathing hose does not get twisted.
NOTICE
The oxygen from the starter flows into the breathing bag within
1 to 2 minutes. However, the breathing bag does not fill completely.
If necessary, use your hands to help unfold the breathing bag.
If the breathing bag does not fill, breath out powerfully two or three
times to fill the breathing bag.
To do this, reach through the collar and pull the hood and inner
mask from the face. Exhale directly into the half mask.
Tighten the strap to the back.
If this is not possible, use your hand to press the half mask against
the face.
The half mask sits tightly in front of the mouth and nose, the collar
lies tight against the neck.
Danger of poisoning!
The half mask must fit snugly! Full beards cause leakages!
Leakages reduce the operating time and affect the protective func-
tion.
Pull the strap again if you feel air passing through the inner mask
when breathing.
Put the chest strap around your body and close it.
Tighten the chest strap.
Important Escape Rules
— Start the escape calmly, do not rush.
— Plan your escape route, choose the shortest way to safe ambient
air!
— Behave calmly. Short, quick breaths use more oxygen!
— In the case of devices with mouthpieces:
Always make sure that the mouthpiece is tight between your teeth
and lips and cover the mouthpiece tightly with your lips.
— In the case of devices with a hood:
Always ensure that the inner mask sits snugly on the face.
— The air from the oxygen self-rescuer is warm and dry. This shows
that the oxygen self-rescuer is functioning correctly. A possible
strange taste is normal and harmless.
— Do not damage or compress the breathing bag, otherwise vital
oxygen is lost.
— If you need to vomit, take the mouthpiece out of your mouth and
close it with your thumb, or remove the hood. Do not vomit in the
oxygen self-rescuer!
In order to ensure that no harmful air is inhaled from the environ-
ment, first inhale from the oxygen self-rescuer once the mouth-
piece has been reinserted or the hood put back on.
WARNING
End of Use
The oxygen supply is depleted when breathing becomes laboured
and the breathing bag begins to collapse.
In mining, oxygen self-rescuers used underground must not remain
underground after use.
Cleaning
Do not open the oxygen self-rescuer for cleaning.
Take off the impact protection and strap from the oxygen self-res-
cuer and clean them in soapy water.
Dampen and brush down the oxygen self-rescuer.
The water should be hand-hot. A gentle cleaning agent can be
used.
Thoroughly dry all parts at room temperature or in a drying closet
o
(max. 45
C).
Put the impact protection and the strap back on.
Storage
Store the oxygen self-rescuer in a cool, dry location (see "Technical
Data" for the storage temperature).
Maintenance
Replacing the Inspection Window
Unscrew the defective inspection window with a face spanner
(size: 35 mm).
Furnish the new inspection window with an O ring and use a face
spanner to screw it into the housing (tightening torque: 2.5 Nm).
Dismantling the Support Ring
Use a screwdriver to lever the support ring from the fastening lug
on the side of the oxygen self-rescuer.
Remove the support ring (if necessary, with the impact protection)
from the bottom cover of the housing.
Mounting the Support Ring
Slide the support ring (if necessary, with impact protection) onto
the bottom cover of the housing, until the support ring hooks onto
the latch. Ensure that it fits properly.
Disassembling the Impact Protection
Dismantle the support ring
To separate the impact protection from the support ring, individu-
ally pull the impact protection's fastening holes from the hooks on
the support ring.
Mounting the Impact Protection
To fasten the impact protection to the support ring, pull the fasten-
ing holes in the impact protection onto the hooks on the support
ring.
Mount the support ring.
