•Provide fuse protection on the mains side (max. 25 A, slow-
blow) as well as a residual-current-operated protection switch
in accordance with the applicable regulations.
•To increase the operational reliability, it is essential that a circuit
breaker (which disconnects all power leads) with K character-
istic is used.
•Feed the ends of the pump cable through the threaded cable
connections and cable inlets and wire them according to the
markings on the terminal strips.
NOTE: Check the cable for tight fitting after tightening
the threaded cable connection. If the cable is fitted
loosely in the threaded cable connection, replace the
present seal with the supplied reducer seal (accessories
kit).
•Earth the pump/installation according to regulations.
•The terminal strip is to be assigned as follows:
7.2.1 Mains connection 1~230 V (L, N, PE):
Switchgear:
Terminals 2/T1, N, PE
Connection to the main switch at the terminals 2/T1 and N
according to the wiring diagram (Fig. 2). The grounding con-
ductor is connected to the remaining PE terminal.
Pumps:
Terminals 4/T2, 6/T3, PE
The pumps are connected directly to the motor contactor at
terminals 4/T2 and 6/T3 according to the wiring diagram (Fig.
2). The earth conductor is connected to the remaining PE ter-
minal.
7.2.2 Mains connection 3~400 V (L1, L2, L3, PE):
Switchgear:
Terminals 2/T1, 4/T2, 6/T3, PE
Establish the main connection to the main switch at terminals
2/T1, 4/T2, and 6/T3 according to the wiring diagram (Fig. 2).
The earth conductor is connected to the remaining PE termi-
nal. Connect the clockwise rotating field to the mains termi-
nals.
Pumps:
Terminals 2/T1, 4/T2, 6/T3, PE
The pumps are connected directly to the motor contactor at
terminals 2/T1, 4/T2 and 6/T3 according to the wiring diagram
(Fig. 2). The earth conductor is connected to the remaining PE
terminal.
7.2.3 Signal contacts
SSM (terminals 11, 12, 13):
Connection for external collective fault signal, potential-free
changeover contact,
•Min. contact load 12 V DC, 10 mA,
•Max. contact load 250 V~, 1A,
E.g. for connecting a horn, flashing light or alarm switchgear
(to potential-free input).
The contact is closed between terminals 12 and 13 in the event
of an alarm, if the voltage drops or if the main switch is

switched off.
Alarm (terminals 14, 15, 16):
Connection for external high water alarm, potential-free
changeover contact,
•Min. contact load 12 V DC, 10 mA,
•Max. contact load 250 V~, 1A,
E.g. for connecting a horn, flashing light or alarm switchgear
(to potential-free input).
The contact is closed between terminals 15 and 16 in the event
of an alarm.
DANGER! Danger of explosion!
If float switches are used in potentially explosive areas,
there is a danger of explosion.
In potentially explosive areas, always use an ex-rated
cut-off relay (accessory) between the switchgear and
the float switches.
GL (terminals 5, 6):
Connection for float switch for switching the base-load pump
SL (terminals 7, 8):
Connection for float switch for switching the peak-load pump.
HW (terminals 9, 10):
Connection for high water float switch and forced switch-on of
the pump.
WSK pump 1 (terminals 1, 2):
Connection for the motor protection WSK (thermal winding
contact) of pump 1. The bridge installed at the factory should
be removed if a pump is connected with led-out thermal wind-
ing contact.
WSK pump 2 (terminals 3, 4):
Connection for the motor protection WSK (thermal winding
contact) of pump 2. The bridge installed at the factory should
be removed if a pump is connected with led-out thermal wind-
ing contact.
•After establishing the electrical connections, put the top part
of the housing carefully on the bottom part. Tighten the fasten-
ing screws again.
8. COMMISSIONING
WARNING! Risk of injury and material damage!
Incorrect commissioning can cause personal injury or
property damage.
•Commissioning by qualified personnel only!
•Observe the installation and operating instructions for
the pumps and accessories.
It is recommended to have commissioning performed by Salm-
son customer service.
•Check all settings before commissioning the pump system with
the EC-Drain 2x4.0 switchgear:
– Type of mains voltage
– DIP-switch settings and nominal pump current setting (see
6.2.3 and 6.2.4)
– Follow-up time (see 6.2.5).
Direction of rotation monitoring
for (3~) version only:
•If the phase sequence is incorrect, there is an acoustic signal
as well as optical indication by all LEDs flashing in sequence
anti-clockwise (running lights) and the collective fault signal is
active.
