@ REC BIAS Switch
Bias is a very high frequency AC signal that is applied to
a tape during recording to improve the recording capabili-
ties of the tape. The amount of bias affects the signal-to-
noise ratio, distortion and frequency response of the tape.
Different
tape formulations
require different amounts
of
bias for best results. Therefore TEAC
provides this BIAS
Switch which allows you to select two levels of bias which
are suitable for a variety of tapes. Use the chart on page 3
to guide
you
in selecting the proper setting of the REC
BIAS Switch.

EQ (Equalization) Switch
The amount of equalization used during recording affects
the frequency
response
of the tape and tape deck. Dif-
-
ferent
tapes
require
different
equalization
to properly
match
the tape to the deck. Therefore TEAC
provides a
switch to select two levels of EQ which will provide good
results with a variety of tapes. Use the chart on
page
3
to
help
you
to select
the
switch
setting that will give
optimum equalization for various tapes.

MODE Switches
The REC MODE Switch for a channel must be ON to allow
erasing and recording when the deck is placed in the Record
mode.
At least one
REC
MODE
Switch must be ON to
allow the deck to go into Record mode. Both switches must
be ON
for stereo recording and only one may be ON for
monophonic
recording.
During
playback
only,
leave the
REC MODE Switches OFF to prevent erasing or recording
of your tape in the event you accidentally depressed both
the REC and Play » Buttons instead of just the Play >
Button. You may go directly from Playback mode to Rec-
ord mode
if a REC
MODE
Switch is ON during playback
operation. Without depressing the STOP Button, while the
tape is in motion, hold in the REC Button while you de-
press the
Play »
Button. The red record
indicator
lamp
will
light. This is called a "running splice' or "punch-in
recording'.

In Betriebsfunktion Aufnahme ist Léschen und Aufnehmen
nur mdglich, wenn
der Funktionsschalter
fiir die Kanale
eingeschaltet ist ("ON"). Das Gerat kann nur in Betriebs-
funktion
Aufnahme
geschaltet
werden, wenn
mindestens
einer der beiden Schalter gedriickt wird. Fir Stereo-Aut-
nahmen
missen
beide, fiir Mono-Aufnahmen
braucht
nur
einer der Schalter gedriickt zu werden. Bei der Wiedergabe
lassen Sie diese Funktionsschalter ausgeschaltet ('OFF"),
um
unbeabsichtigtes
Loschen
oder Aufnehmen
zu vermei-
den, falls Sie aus Versehen
statt nur der Wiedergabetaste
die Aufnahme-
und die Wiedergabetaste
gleichzeitig ge-
driickt haben sollten. Ist wahrend der Wiedergabe einer der
Schalter eingeschaltet, so k6nnen Sie direkt von Wiedergabe
auf Aufnahme
umschalten, indem Sie bei laufendem Band
ohne
die Stoptaste
zu driicken
die Aufnahmetaste
nach
unten
drucken
und
dort halten, wahrend
Sie die Wieder-
gabetaste driicken.
Die Aufnahme-Anzeigelampe
leuchtet
rot auf. Dieser
Bedienungsvorgang
wird
"running
splice"
(Umschalten bei laufendem Band) oder "punch-in record-
ing" (Einschaltaufnahme) genannt.
