To prevent air bubbles detrimental to the function of the
electric pump, position the inflow pipes at a slope of no
less than 2% (see fig.1 pg. 4).
Protect the pump from possible reversing strokes with a
check valve in the delivery pipe.
Install an isolating valve upstream and downstream
of the pump so it can be isolated in the case of
maintenance or dismantling.
The diameter of the suction piping should never be less
than the diameter of the suction inlet.

4.2 Electrical connections

c
Before starting work on the electric pump,
make sure the electrical connection has been
disconnected from the power supply network
and that it cannot be reconnected accidentally.
Connections must be carried out exclusively by
an authorised electrician and according to current
regulations.
c
The installer sees to making the connection in
compliance with current standards in force in
the country of installation.
Connect the electric pump using an external network
switch with a minimum distance of at least 3mm between
contacts on all poles.
The data regarding the power supply of the motor are
shown on the plate of the same. Before starting up the
motor, check that the electrical supply is compatible with
the characteristics of the same.
Wire the electric cables to the motor according to the
diagram shown inside the cover of the terminal box.
Make the connect ensuring there is an effective earth
circuit.
m
For more information about the use and
maintenance of the motor, refer to the "Service
instructions" manual.
c
Avoid any contact between the electric cables
and the pipes or other parts of the pump,
carefully insulate cables from damp.
c
Remember to connect the earthing system.
If necessary, the motor maybe rotated on its axis to
facilitate accessibility for maintenance personnel.
In this case, it is necessary to unscrew the clamping
screws of the motor to the pump and rotate the motor on
its seating. Make sure not to remove the coupling joint.
Where necessary, first remove the coupling safety
casings. Reattach the screws of the motor to the pump
upon conclusion of the above mentioned operation; where
necessary reassemble the coupling safety casings.
5 START-UP
ATTENTION: The electric pump must NOT be started
without prior filling. Its dry use may irreparably
damage the mechanical seal.
m
Keep clear of the flow path of the liquid from the
venting valve during the start up of the pump.
Liquid may escape during venting, which may
be harmful to the user in the case where the
liquid is at a high temperature or in the case of
pumping hazardous liquids.
5.1 Filling and venting
5.1.1 Filling the electric pump (fig. 1.A pg. 4)
1 - Close the gate valves on the delivery side of the pump
so as not to allow the fluid being used to fill the pump
circulate in the circuit.
2 - Remove the upper vent plug (fig. 3.A pg. 5) and slowly
unscrew the Bypass valve (fig. 3.B pg. 5), so as to
connect the two inner chambers of the pump and
facilitate filling. Do not completely remove the Bypass
valve. This should only and exclusively be removed to
empty the pump.
In the filling phase, just unscrew it by 3 or 4 turns.
3 - Open the gate valve on the suction side of the pump
so as to allow the fluid to drain through the pump.
Make sure the level difference between the pump
and the head is such as to guarantee the pump is
completely filled.
4 - Once there is even flow from the vent plug, close it
carefully. Close the Bypass valve.
5 - Check the rotation direction of the motor as indicated
on the same.
6 - Start-up the pump and check it is rotating in the right
direction.
7 - Slowly open the gate valve on the delivery side to the
limit.
m
Pay special attention to point 3, in the case
where the pump is filled with hot or hazardous
liquids, the fluid that escapes from the upper
vent plug could strike people. Stay in a safe
position during this operation. Close the gate
valve once there is a constant flow of liquid from
the plug, which is closed again in such a way as
to avoid contact with the liquid.
m
Depending on the temperature of the pumped
liquid, the surfaces of the pump may reach high
temperatures. If deemed necessary, provide
guards to avoid accidental contact.
5.1.2 Suction pump (fig. 1.B pg. 4)
1 - Close the gate valves on the delivery side of the pump
so as not to allow the fluid being used to fill the pump
circulate in the circuit and open the gate valve on the
suction side.
2 - Remove the upper vent plug (fig. 3.A pg. 5) and slowly
unscrew the Bypass valve (fig. 3.B pg. 5) so as to
connect the two inner chambers of the pump and
facilitate filling. Do not completely remove the Bypass
valve. This should only and exclusively be removed to
empty the pump.
In the filling phase, just unscrew it by 3 or 4 turns.
