Any of these reactions can cause a loss of control of the saw that can lead to a serious
bodily accident.
•
These reaction forces are the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures
or conditions and can be avoided by taking the appropriate precautions specified below:
- Hold the saw firmly with both hands and with your thumbs and fingers enclosing the handles of
the saw and position your body and arms to allow you to resist unexpected forces.
- Do not extend your arms too far and do not cut above shoulder height.
- Always be aware of where the tip of the chain sword is.
- Pay attention so that the tip of the sword does not touch any object.
- Do not cut branches with the tip of the sword.
- Make sure that there is no nail or piece of metal in the cutting area and pay special attention to
nails or pieces of iron that may be found around the cutting area. Be careful also when cutting
hardwoods where the chain can catch and lock and therefore produce the rebound.
- Start at full throttle and always keep the machine at full speed during cutting.
- Cut a single branch or piece of wood at a time.
- Be cautious when inserting the chainsaw chain into an already started cut to continue.
- Do not make cuts with the chainsaw until you are familiar with the cutting technique.
- Do not make cuts on branches or pieces of wood that may change position during cutting.
- Keep the chain in good condition.
- Work only if the chain is well sharpened and properly tensioned.
- Never put on the cutting plane of the chainsaw.
- Use only the spare swords and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect spare swords
and chains can cause chain breakage and/or recoil.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the sharpening and maintenance of the saw
chain.
