6.3 SERVICING THE AIR CLEANER
Procedure
WATER PUMP
A dirty air cleaner can restrict air flowing into the carburetor. To keep the carburetor in
good working conditions, please service the air cleaner periodically. If operating the
engine in extremely dust area, the job should be done more often.
NOTICE: Do not clean the air cleaner element with gasoline or low-flash point
detergents, or explosion may happen.
NOTICE: Do not run the engine without an air cleaner, because air with dirt and dust
entering the engine can speed up the engine wear.
Perform the procedure below to service the air cleaner.
1.
Remove air cleaner cover (a). Remove both elements and inspect them for holes
or tears. Replace damaged elements.
2.
Wash foam element (b) in solution of mild detergent and warm water. Rinse
thoroughly in clean water. Allow element to dry thoroughly. Soak element in clean
engine oil and squeeze out excess oil.
3.
Tap paper element lightly to remove excess dirt. Replace paper element if it
appears heavily soiled.
