TROUBLESHOOTING
The table includes some of the most common problems, their causes and remedies.
PROBLEM
Motor does not start
The engine starts but is
not at idle.
Difficulty starting the
engine after use or when
the engine stops suddenly
during use.
Reduced engine speed/

SOLUTION
Check that there is fuel in the tank and that the
fuel tap is in the "ON" position.
Make sure the power switch is in the "ON"
position.
Check the engine oil level.
Remove the spark plug and clean the charcoal
from the electrodes.
Remove the spark plug and reconnect the spark
plug wire to it. Place the fuel tap in the "OFF"
position and the engine ignition switch in the
"ON" position. Touch the spark plug electrode on
a part of the engine crankcase, and try to start
the engine - a spark should be visible through
the electrodes as the engine rotates. If no spark is
visible, replace spark plug.
Place choke in "HOT" or "RUN" position. Leave
the power switch in the "OFF" position. Pull the
starter lever several times to help remove excess
fuel from the engine before attempting to start.
Check and clean the air filter
Check fuel and oil level.
Allow the engine to cool down before restarting.
Remove the spark plug and clean the charcoal
from the electrodes.
Clean the carburetor.
Check and clean the air filter
Remove the cylinder head from the engine and
clean the carbon from the combustion chamber.
Stop the exhaust silencer, remove it, and clean any
carbon deposits from the exhaust port.
Remove spark plug and clean charcoal from
electrodes before reassembling.
Clean the carburetor.
