Assembling the pump (Figure IV):
Important:
• Before assembling the pump, make sure that all parts, except the main device, USB cable and the adaptor are cleaned and sterilized.
• Check breast pump kit components for wear or damage before each use. Replace if necessary.
• Always inspect all parts prior to use for cleanliness.
• To prevent damage to the breast pump all components must be completely dry before use.
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching the breast pump, breast pump kit and the breast.
1. Insert the valve into the silicone shield.
2. Insert the silicone shield into the collector cup and make sure it is in right position.
3. Assemble the diaphragm into the milk collector cup.
4. Press and rotate the main device onto the collector cup in clockwise direction and make sure they fit at correct position.
5. Put the breast pump into the nursing bra, then start pumping.
When to express milk:
If breastfeeding goes well, it is advisable (unless advised otherwise by your healthcare professional/ breastfeeding advisor) to wait until your milk supply and breastfeeding schedule are established (normally at least 2 to 4
weeks after giving birth) before you start expressing.
Exceptions:
• If breastfeeding does not go well immediately, expressing regularly can help to establish and maintain your milk supply.
• If you are expressing milk for your baby to be given in hospital.
• If your breasts are engorged (painful or swollen), you can express a small amount of milk before or between feeds to ease the pain and to help your baby latch on more easily.
• If you have sore or cracked nipples, you may wish to express your milk until they are healed.
• If you are separated from your baby and wish to continue to breastfeed when you are reunited, you should express your milk regularly to stimulate your milk supply.
You need to find the optimum times of the day to express your milk, for example just before or after your baby's first feed in the morning when your breasts are full, or after a feed if your baby has not emptied both breasts.
If you have returned to work, you may need to express during a break.
Using a breast pump requires practice and it may take several attempts before you succeed. Fortunately, the KikkaBoo electric breast pump is easy to assemble and use so you will soon get used to expressing with it.
Using the pump (Figure V):
1. Wash your hands thoroughly and make sure your breasts are clean.
2. Hold the breast shield onto your breast with your thumb and index finger. Support your breast with palm of your hand.
3. Place your nipple in the center of the assembled silicone shield/insert. Gently press the pump to your breast. Make sure your nipple fits properly.
4. Turn on the breast pump by tapping the power button and choose the mode you prefer.
• The breast pump automatically starts up in massage mode. You can change the level of the massage mode by using the "+" and "-" buttons. After two minutes, it will automatically transition to pumping mode. If your milk
begins to flow before two minutes, press the mode change button to manually transition to pumping mode.
• Once you are in the pumping mode, increase the suction level by using the "+"button until pumping feels slightly uncomfortable (not painful), then decrease slightly using the "-"button.
Note: Massage mode is fasting sucking pump rhythm to stimulate milk flow. Pumping mode is slower sucking rhythm for gentle and efficient milk removal after milk has started flowing.
• When milk flow stops, you can switch to the bionic mode, it aims to trigger another let-down by combining fast and slow pumping rhythms.
Attention: Do not always use the maximum level of each mode, just choose the most comfortable level for you. Depending on your own personal comfort, you may wish to use a higher suction level that
provides deeper suction. You can always return to a lower suction level.
Note: Do not worry if your milk does not flow immediately. Relax and continue pumping. The milk will soon flow, even if you do not use all the suction power that the pump can create. The first few times when you use the
breast pump, you may need to use a higher suction mode to get your milk flowing.
Warning! Do not pump for more than 5 minutes without interruption. If there is still no milk flow, try expressing at another time of the day.
• When you have finished expressing, turn off the breast pump by pressing the power button for 2 seconds.
To collecting the milk after expression:
5. Take out the pump from your nursing bra.
6. Rotate the main device in counterclockwise direction and take it off.
7. Insert the silicone stopper into the collector cup as shown in figure V-7.
8. Unscrew the feeding bottle you will use.
9. Pour the breast milk into a feeding bottle in the indicated direction as shown in figure V-9.
• If you want to store the breast milk, carefully transfer it into a sanitized container or pre-sterilized milk storage bag. For storage conditions, please refer to the section Storing breast milk.
• Disassemble and clean the other parts according to the instruction in section Cleaning and sanitizing.
Storing breast milk:
Warning! Always refrigerate or freeze expressed milk immediately. Store only fresh milk. Store only breast milk collected with a cleaned and sanitized pump to ensure hygiene. Always store breast milk in sanitized
containers or bottles fitted with a sanitized screw ring and sealing disc or in pre-sterilized milk storage bags. Do NOT fill the containers, bottles or the milk bags completely. Leave some space as milk volume increases during
freezing.
• Always clearly label the date and time of expression on the containers, bottles or the milk bags.
• Always use older breast milk first.
• In order to keep the nutritional content of the breast milk, thaw in a refrigerator compartment or under running tap water without opening the container, bottle or bag. Stored milk can be thawed overnight in a
refrigerator, then gradually heated in a warmer or hot water.
• Shake the thawed milk to mix fat particles and the remaining milk ingredients. Thawed milk is usable for 24 hours if it is stored in the refrigerator.
• Never refreeze thawed milk.
• Never combine freshly expressed and thawed milk.
