2. Safety
2.1 Intended use
The model GIR-10 gas presence detector is suitable for the locating and quantification
of leakage on equipment filled with SF₆ gas or technical air. Besides, the model GIR-10
is used for the determination of leakage rates for the final inspection of SF₆ gas-filled or

- / Clean Air- / Dry Air-filled plants.

Operational safety is thus only ensured when using the instrument for the measurement
of SF₆ gas or CO
in air.

The instrument must never come into contact with aggressive gases or liquids.
Only use the instrument in applications that lie within its technical performance limits
(e.g. max. ambient temperature, material compatibility, ...).
→ For performance limits, see chapter 9 "Specifications".
This instrument is not permitted to be used in hazardous areas!
The gas presence detector model GIR-10 has been designed and built solely for the
intended use described here, and may only be used accordingly.
The technical specifications contained in these operating instructions must be
observed. Improper handling or operation of the instrument outside of its technical
specifications requires the instrument to be taken out of service immediately and
inspected by an authorised WIKA service engineer.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for claims of any type based on operation contrary
to the intended use.
