Switch)
The unit works 2-3 seconds after this switch is turned on.
IF BAND
(IF Bandwidth Selector Button)
Selects the bandwidth
of the FM intermediate frequency
amplifier from 2 ranges, "WIDE"
and "NARROW".
This LED
indicator (B lights up at this time.
MPX
NR (MPX NR Button)
Switches MPX NR "ON" or "OFF". Lights "ON" LED ®.
ON:
Suppresses noise when a stereo broadcast with a
weak
signal is being
received.
OFF:
Does
not carry out the above
operation.
MODE
(Mode Button)
AUTO/MUTE: lights "AUTO". The "STEREO" and "AUTO"
indicators
lights up when
a stereo
broadcast
is being
received.
In FM reception, according to the mode of the program, the
reception can be automatically switched to the monaural or
stereo mode. The AUTO/MUTE
setting is used to eliminate
noise in no signal reception, by activating a muting circuit.
This setting should also be used for automatic tuning.
MONO: The "MONO" and "MANUAL" indicators light up.
An FM radio program
is received in a monaural
mode,
regardless of stereo or monaural broadcasting program. If
there is much noise at the "AUTO/MUTE"
position due to a
weak
sound
signal, set to the "MONO"
position. This
setting should be used for manual tuning.
In AM reception, this button works for selection of automa-
tic or manual tuning.
PRESET CHANNEL
1-20 (Preset Channel Button)
These buttons are used for storing broadcast frequencies.
Two
FM, AM
station can be memorized
for each button.
When
the
preset
channel
buttons
are
in operation,
an
indicator ® goes on. When radio stations are memorized
with these buttons, a desired station can be easily tuned
without
pressing the tuning
buttons.
MEMORY
(Memory Button)
This button is used to enable storage of the frequency of a
broadcasting
station in memory
with the PRESET.
When
MEMORY
is pressed, indicator ® blinks for approximately
5 seconds. If the PRESET button is pressed during this time
interval, the frequency that is currently displayed stored in
memory.
Note:
If the MEMORY indicator (D is not blinking, pressing
the PRESET button will not store the frequency in memory.
SHIFT (Shift Button)
This switch is used to select the preset channels from either
1-10 or 11-20. When the shift button is pressed, either[A] or
lights up on the SHIFT indicator.
Note:
After
preset
tuning,
another
channel
cannot
be
selected by pressing the shift key only. Press the preset key
again to set the signal that you wish to receive.
[A]: 1-10
[B]: 11-20

BAND
(Band Button)
Selects between
FM or AM.
AM is displayed in MW
in the indicator ®.
TU-550L:
Pressing this button changes the tuner from FM
to MW to LW, then back to FM, in that order.
TUNING
(Tuning Buttons)
Use these two buttons for either manual tuning or automa-
tic tuning.
UP
: When this button is pressed, the frequency will
change higher
: When this button is pressed, the frequency will
change lower
e Manual Tuning (Set the TUNING MODE (p "MANU" by
pushing the MODE button @.)
In FM mode, the frequency indicator moves in 100 kHz
steps. In AM, the indicator moves in 10 kHz steps. If the
button is pressed for more than 1 second, the indicator
moves
quickly
and
continuously
up
or
down
until
released.

Automatic Tuning (Set the TUNING
MODE (D "AUTO"
by pushing the MODE
button @.)
For example,
when
the "UP"
button
is pressed,
the
frequency indicator moves
up the band until a broad-
cast signal is received.
If no more signals are detected, the indicator moves to
the upper
limit and starts from the lower end.
(When
the "DOWN"
button
is pressed, the indicator
travels down in the same way.)
While
the button
is continuously
pressed,
broadcast
signals cannot
be tuned;
the indicator continuously
travels up or down
the band.
Automatic tunning is only provided for radio stations of
use able strength; a sudden strong noise may disturb
automatic tuning.
TU-550L:
Not available in this model, during reception
of LW only.
When
the desired signal is weak, use manual tuning.
STEREO/MONO
(Stereo/Mono
Indicator)
Lights automatically when receiving a stereo signal in the
"STEREO"
mode. Does not light for stereo reception in the
"MONO"
mode.
DOWN
TUNING
MODE
(AUTO/MANUAL)
'Pressing MODE @ causes "AUTO" and "MANUAL" to light
up alternately.
SHIFT [A],
(Shift Indicator)
The preset channel which is selected with the Shift Button
@ is displayed by the SHIFT
or [8].
[A]: 1—10
[B]: 11—20
WIDE/NARROW
(IF BAND
LED Indicator)
Pressing "IF BAND" @ causes WIDE and NARROW to light
up alternately.
