Weighted effective value of acceleration
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration has been measured
against standard test procedures and can be used by way of comparison with
another device. The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can also
be used as a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.
CAUTION
CAUTION
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can differ during opera-
tion from the indicated value, dependent on the manner in which the device is
used. Dependent upon the actual conditions of use (periodic duty) it may be
necessary to establish safety precautions for the protection of the operator.
2. Preparations for use
2.1. Electrical connection
WARNING
WARNING
Ensure that the mains voltage is correct! Before connecting the electric
socket welder, check whether the voltage given on the rating plate corresponds
to the mains voltage. On building sites, in a wet environment, indoors and
outdoors or under similar installation conditions, only operate the electrofusion
welder on the mains with a fault current protection switch (FI switch) which
interrupts the power supply as soon as the leakage current to earth exceeds
30 mA for 200 ms.
3. Operation
3.1. Description of process
In the electric sleeve welding process (heater coil welding), the joint is completed
with the sleeve overlapping the end of the pipe. In the process, the joint surfaces
are electrically heated to welding temperature by the resistance wires (heater
coil) arranged in the sleeve, and welded accordingly. The welding unit delivers
the necessary power supply for the type of electrical welding sleeve used. As
soon as the necessary amount of heat has been conducted to the welding
point, the unit switches off automatically. The electric welding sleeve, which
contracts on heating, generates the necessary applied pressure on the joint
surfaces. To super wise a successful weld, a spot indicator on the sleeve changes
colour or an indicator pin appears (Pay attention to the manufacturer's information
of the electric welding sleeve!).
3.2. Preparations for welding
The manufacturer information for pipes or electrofusion sockets must be
observed! The ends of the pipe must be cut off square and fl at. This is done
with a REMS RAS pipe cutter (see 1.2.). In addition, the ends of the pipe should
be chamfered to facilitate insertion into the sleeve. The REMS RAG pipe
chamfering unit is used for this process (see 1.2.). Immediately before welding,
the ends of the pipe should be stripped to at least the insertion depth (e.g.with
a scraper). The pipe surfaces should be cleaned with non-adherent paper or
a nonfraying cloth and spirit or industrial alcohol. Do not remove the moulding
from the protective packing until immediately before installation. The welding
surfaces must not be touched again before welding takes place Insert the pipe
ends into the electrofusion socket up to the stop.

3.3. Welding process
290050
The electrofusion welder can be hung on the snap hook (6) during the welding
290000
process, if necessary. Connect the mains lead of the electrofusion welder to
290100
the mains; an acoustic signal sounds. REMS EMSG 160-2 switches to standby
290200
mode and the green control lamp (1) fl ashes slowly. Insert electrofusion plugs
292110
into the receptacles of the electrofusion socket and press the "Start" button (2).
292210
The welding process is started and the green control lamp lights steadily.
140119
The device sets the required welding voltage automatically according to the
size of the electrofusion socket. The device switches off automatically after
approx. 1.5 min. welding time. The green control lamp and the red control lamp
fl ash alternately and the acoustic signal is sounded repeatedly. The welding
process is fi nished. Press the "Stop" button to switch REMS EMSG 160-2 into
32 – 160 mm
the standby mode.
-10 – 45 °C (14 °F– 113 °F)
Pull out the mains plug and unplug the electrofusion plugs at the end of the
welding process.
230 V~
Allow the welding joints to cool naturally! Do not accelerate the cooling process
1000 W
of the welding joints with water, cold air or similar! Do not move welding joints
50 – 60 Hz
until they have completely cooled down. For ratings, see the manufac turer's
I, (all-insulated)
information of pipes and electric welding sleeves.

4. Maintenance
195 × 70 × 49 mm
Notwithstanding the maintenance described below, it is recommended to send
(7.7" x 2.8" x 1.8")
in the power tool to an authorised REMS contract customer service workshop
3.9 m (153.5")
for inspection and periodic testing of electrical devices at least once a year. In
2.9 m (114.2")
Germany, such periodic testing of electrical devices should be performed in
accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and also prescribed for mobile electrical
1.1 kg (2.4 lb)
equipment according to the accident prevention rules DGUV, regulation 3
"Electrical Systems and Equipment". In addition, the respective national safety
provisions, rules and regulations valid for the application site must be considered
L

and observed.
pA
K = 3 dB
4.1. Maintenance
≤ 2.5 m/s²
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance work!
K = 1.5 m/s²
Clean the electrofusion welder regularly, especially when it has not been in use
for a long time. The lines of the REMS EMSG 160-2 must be checked for
damage before every welding process. Store electrofusion welder in a frost-free
location.
Clean plastic parts (e.g. housing) only with REMS CleanM machine cleaner
(Art. No. 140119) or a mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not use household
cleaners These often contain chemicals which can damage the plastic parts.
Never use petrol, turpentine, thinner or similar products for cleaning.
Make sure that liquids never get onto or inside the electrofusion welder. Never
immerse the electrofusion welder in liquid.
4.2. Inspection/Repair
Pull out the mains plug before carrying out maintenance or repair work!
This work may only be performed by qualifi ed personnel.
The REMS EMSG 160-2 device is fully maintenance-free.
