Leveling
the Deck
(Side to Side)
If the cuttingdeck appearsto be mowingunevenly, a side to side
adjustment c an be performed.Adjustif necessaryas follows:
1.
Withthe tractorparkedon a firm,levelsurface,placethe deck lift
leverin the middlepositionand rotateboth bladesso that they are
perpendicular w ith the tractor.
2.
Measurethe distancefrom the outsideof the left blade tip to the
groundand the distancefrom theoutsideof the rightbladetip to
theground.Bothmeasurements taken shouldbe equal. If they're
not, proceedto the next step.
3.
Loosen,butdo NOT remove,the hexbolt on the left deckhanger
bracket.See Figure23.

Usinga wrench,raiseor lowerthe left sideof thedeck byturning
theadjustmentgear.See Figure23.
Thedeck is properlyleveledwhenbothblade tip measurements
takenearlierare equal. Retightenthe hexbolton the left deck hanger
bracketwhenproperadjustmentis achieved.

If the tractordoesnot cometo a completestopwhenthe brakepedal
iscompletelydepressed,or ifthe tractor'srearwheelscan roll with the
parkingbrakeapplied(and the hydrostaticreliefvalveopen),the brake
is in needof adjustment.See a Searsor other qualifiedservicedealer
to havethe brakeproperlyadjusted.

the Seat
Referto the Assemblysectionof this manualfor seat adjustment
instructions.
Steering
Adjustment
If the tractorturnstighter inone directionthanthe other,or ifthe ball
joints are being replaceddue to damageor wear,the steeringdrag
links may needto be adjusted.
Adjustthe drag links so that equallengthsof each are threadedinto
the ball jointon the left sideand the balljointon the rightside:
1.
Removethe hexnut belowthe balljoint.See Figure24.

Threadthe balljoint inward to shortenthe drag link. Threadthe
ball joint outwardto lengthenthedrag link.
3.
Replacethe hexnut after properadjustmentis achieved.
NOTE: Threadingthe balljointstoofar ontothe drag links willcause
the front tires to "toe-in"toofar. Propertoe-in is between1/16"and
5/16".
4.
Fronttiretoe-incan be measured as follows:
a.
Placethe steeringwheelin positionfor straightaheadtravel.
b.
Infront of the axle, measurethe distancehorizontallyfrom
the inside of the left rimto the inside of the right rim. Notethe
distance.
c.
Behindthe axle, measurethe distancehorizontallyfrom the
inside of the left rimto the inside of the rightrim. Notethe
distance.
d.
The measurement t aken in frontof the axle shouldbe
between 1/16"and 5/16"less thanthe measurement t aken
behindthe axle.
Beforeoperatingthe tractor,make surethe seatis engagedin the
seat-stop.Engagethe parkingbrake.Standbehindthe machineand
pull backon seat untilitclicks intoplace.
