Stopping
The Engine
Runenginefor a few minutesbeforestoppingto help dry off any
moistureon the engine.
1.
Movethrottlecontrolto STOP
position.
2.
Removethe key.Removingthe key will reducethe possibilityof
unauthorized startingof the enginewhileequipmentis not in use.
Keepthe key in a safeplace.The enginecannotstart withoutthe
key.
3.
Wipeanymoistureawayfrom the controlson theengine..
To Stop The Snow Thrower
1. Tostop thewheels,releasethe drivecontrol.
2. Tostop throwingsnow,releasethe augercontrol.
3. Tostop engine,movethrottlecontrolleverto OFF 0
and pull out
the key.Donot turnkey.
Thetemperatureof mufflerand the surrounding areasmay exceed
1500F.Avoidthese areas.
Using Snow Thrower to Clear
Snow
CAUTION:Checkthearea to be clearedfor foreignobjects. Remove
foreignobjects,if any.
1. Start the enginefollowingstartinginstructions.
2. Allowthe engineto warmup fora few minutesas the enginewill not
developfull poweruntil it reachesoperatingtemperature.
3. Rotatethe chuteassemblyto the desireddirection,awayfrom
bystanders and/or buildings.
4. Makingcertainno bystanders or obstaclesare infront of the unit,
squeezethe augercontrolcompletelyagainstthe upperhandleto
fully engagetheauger.
5. Whiletheauger controlisengaged,squeezethe drivecontrol
completelyagainsttheupper handleto engagethe wheels.Do not
"feather"the drivecontrol.
6. As the snowthrowerstartsto move,maintaina firm hold on the
handle,and guide the snowthroweralong the pathto be cleared.
7. Releasethe augerand drive controlsto stop the snowthrowing
actionand forwardmotion.
NOTE:Your unitisequippedwith a clutch inthe transmission. I f the
wheelsstop turningwhiletrying to dischargelargevolumesof snow,
immediately disengagethedrivecontrol and allowthe rotatingauger
to dischargesnow fromthe housing.Reducethe clearingwidth and
continueoperation.
8. On each succeedingpass,readjustthe chute assemblyto the
desiredpositionand slightlyoverlapthe previouslyclearedpath.

Loosenthechuteknoband pivotupperchuteto desiredposition.Tighten
the chuteknobmakingsurethe carriageboltiscorrectlypositioned.
Raising the chutethrowssnowfurther.
Rotatechutehandleto desiredoperatingposition.
Donot lift the snow throwerat any time by thechute handle.
Operating
Tips
1. Formostdficientsnowremoval, r emove snowimmediately afteritfalls.
2. Dischargesnowdownwindwheneverpossible.Slightlyoverlap
each previouspath.
3. Set the skid shoes 1/4"belowthe shaveplatefor normalusage.
The skid shoes maybe adjustedupwardfor hard-packed snow.
NOTE: It isnot recommended that youoperatethis snowthroweron
gravelas loosegravelcan be easily pickedup and thrown bythe auger
causingpersonalinjuryand/or damageto the snowthrower.
4. If you chooseto operatethe snowthroweron gravel,keepthe skid
shoe inthe lowestpositionfor maximum clearancebetweenthe
groundand the shaveplate.
5. Cleanthe snowthrowerthoroughlyafter eachuse.
REPLACING
SHEAR
PINS
The augeris securedto the spiralshaftwith two shearpinsand bow-
tie clips. If the auger shouldstrikea foreignobject or icejam,the snow
throweris designedso that the shearpinsmay shear.If auger will not
turn, checkto see ifthe pins havesheared.See Figure10.
NEVERreplacethe augershearpins withanythingotherthan OEM
PartNo. 738-04124 replacement s hearpins. See Parts List in this
Operator'sManual.Any damageto the snowthroweras a resultof
failingto do sowill NOTbe coveredbyyour snowthrower'swarranty.
Alwaysturn off the snowthrower'sengineand removethe key priorto
replacingshearpins.
