water.
We recommend using the method of installation described
in fig. 3, as it includes a by-pass to avoid interruptions in the
supply water flow in case the equipment should need to be
turned off for maintenance. The by-pass will allow you to use
water in your structure even while the water softener is under
maintenance.
3.3.1 QUICK JOINTS
The connections of the pipes with the valve are made with
quick couplings. To connect a pipe it is necessary to insert
it all the way in the metal inserts of the quick couplings will
prevent the pipe from coming out.
To disconnect the pipe it is necessary to depressurize the
tank, then press the black ring that surrounds the pipe next to
the insertion, and extract the pipe (fig. 5).
Ensure that:
• The water inlet (fig. 3, G) and outlet (fig. 3, H) pipes comply
with the norms on drinking water pipes.
• The water inlet pipe has an internal diameter of at least 8
mm.
We suggest installing a filter before the inlet pipe (fig. 3, G), to
clean the feed water.
Install a non-return valve on the water outlet pipe (fig.
3, A) (DVGW, DIN 1988 T2) to protect the water softe-
ner from a reverse flow of hot water that could cause
damage.
Install a tap to take a sample of the outlet water, to test its
hardness. Connect the water inlet and outlet pipes to the
3/8"G or 3/4"G joints in the package, tightening them safely
(fig. 3, D, B). Insert the joints all the way into the valve (fig. 5).
Make sure that all pipes are clear, not crushed or constricted.
3.4 CONNECTION TO THE DRAIN SYSTEM
Waste water resulting from the regeneration must be
funnelled into the floor sink by the plastic flexible pipe
with an 8 mm internal diameter (fig.3, F) included in the
package.
Often the cause of the malfunctioning of water softeners
is due to a faulty installation of this pipe. (fig. 6, A)
Insert the drain pipe in its joint (fig. 2, "DRAIN") and pla-
ce the other in the floor sink, ensuring that:
• If the floor sink is higher than the water softener, the ma-
ximum height acceptable is 1.8 metres, provided that the
pipe is not longer than 5 metres and the pressure of the
water system is at least 3 bar (fig. 7).
• The pipe is not flattened or bent, as water should flow
without impediments (fig. 6, A);
• The drain pipe must never be directly connected to a si-
phon or to any other drain pipes, to avoid reverse water
flows and contamination of the water softener.
• Keep the drain pipe suspended over and not immer-
sed in the sink water.
• Ensure that the pipe does not come out when the wa-
ter softener is doing the regeneration.
3.5 CONNECTION TO THE BRINE TANK
The installer must check that the pipe and connection fittings
between the valve and the brine have a perfect seal, to avoid
air infiltration (fig. 7, A).
3.6 CONNECTION TO THE OVERFLOW PIPE
The installation of the overflow pipe (fig. 3, E) on the brine
tank allows draining of possible excess of water, that may be
caused by faulty refills or working malfunctions.
In case the overflow union joint is not mounted on the GAE 5
20
and GAE12 softeners, pierce the brine approximately 10 cm
below the lid (fig. 1, E) with a 17 mm diameter hole and screw
on the overflow fitting (fig. 3, I).
Insert the green flexible pipe (included in the package) in the
quick joint, then connect the pipe to a floor sink that must be
placed under the quick joint, because the water that may come
out will not be pressurized (fig. 6, B).
Do not put the overfill pipe in the same floor sink used for the
drain pipe, to prevent any possible reverse flows of water in
the brine (fig. 14).
3.7 CONNECTION TO THE ELECTRICITY GRID
Make sure that the voltage of the electricity grid is compatible
with the voltage needed by the equipment.
Make sure that the plug is compatible with the socket. If
in-compatible, let qualified personnel change it. They will al-
so check that the cables are compatible with the absorbed
power.
Installation must be carried out in accordance with the
law on electrical systems, CEI 64.8.
The equipment is built in compliance with the essential safety
requirements prescribed by the following European directives:
• Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/UE
• Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/UE
• Product norms: 2014/30/EU/(EMC), EN 55014-
1 : 2 0 1 7 , E N 6 1 0 0 0 - 3 - 2 : 2 0 1 4 , E N 6 1 0 0 0 - 3 -
3:2013,EN 55014-2:2015 2014/35/EU(LVD), EN
60335-1:2012+A11:2014+A13:2017
• Product norms IEC/EN 60335-1:2010 on the Electrical
safety of electrical machinery for domestic use and similar
• Its components comply with UL/CSA/VDE
• RoHS norm.
After the installation is complete, before opening the wa-
ter inlet and outlet taps, read chapter 4 "ACTIVATION".
