Inspect all parts and insure they are free of rust, scoring, friction braking surface and disks for oil
contamination, brake frictions disks for wear (see chart below) glazing, flatness, cracks, chips or
any other harmful flaws.
Friction disks must retain uniform thickness and friction disks shall not
be work mor than .5mm of original dimension.
Inspect Ratchet and pawl for proper operation. Ensure pawl engages ratchet teeth properly.
Inspection pawl and ratchet for wear, broken tips, chipped or worn teeth. The ratchet is a braking
surface and should be free from defects, contamination such as rust, dust, oil, and scoring. Check
integrity of all springs.
It is recommended that when the unit is disassembled and reassembled an operational and load
test be performed.
Operational test:
For chainfalls place a min of 50 lbs. per load supporting parts of chain and on lever tools 100 lbs.
min per load supporting parts of chain on the unit. Raise load approx. twelve inches, observe
operation and observe hoist is holding the load. Lower load and observe for proper operations.
Load Test
Perform a static or dynamic load test of 100% - 125% of the working load limit. Inspect entire
outside of unit, chain, hooks, pins, body for any abnormalities after performing load test. Ref
ASME B30.16 and ASME B30.21 for further guidance on load testing. The load test must be
performed by a qualified person and documented.
