Recommendations for the collection and measurement of capillary
blood
To obtain a suitable blood drop:
Wash your hands with warm water.
Ensure hands are warm and dry before lancing. Massage your fingertip.
After lancing the finger, discard the first drop of blood. Then try to obtain a sufficiently
large hanging drop without excessive pressing or squeezing.
We recommend obtaining the capillary blood from the side of the fingertip as this part is
the least sensitive to pain.
WARNING
Potential risk of incorrect results due to fatty residues
When performing a triglycerides test: Nearly all creams and many soap
products (e.g. shower gel and shampoo) contain fat. If residues of these
fatty substances on the skin come into contact with the test strips, the
measurement will be incorrect. It is therefore particularly important to
wash your hands very thoroughly and rinse them with plenty of clear
water when performing this test.
The flashing drop icon (above the strip icon)
now instructs you to apply the blood.
Blood can be applied to the sample applica-
tion area of the test strip either:
with the test strip inside the meter (when
used by a single user) or
with the test strip outside the meter (when
tests are performed in the professional
sector with, for example, heparinized
capillary pipettes).
See description on pages 47 and 48.
