It is advisable to change the filter media in the
uppermost basket if there are many fine particles
in the aquarium water: Black sponge on top, the
white filter mat (floss) underneath. This setup
prevents the filter from clogging too quickly.

Cleaning or changing the running unit of the sera
fil bioactive 250 and 400 (4)
1) Lift off the filter head as described in 3d and 3e
and put it on a table upside down.
2) Pull out the locking bolt on the bottom side
with a pair of tongs (4.1.1).
3) Loosen the tube connection to the UV-C lamp
casing. First pull the tube (4.1.2) out of the lamp
casing to the left side. Take off the tube connec-
tor (4.2.1) and the rotor chamber lid (4.2.2). If
the rotor chamber lid does not come off to-
gether with the tube connector please loosen
the rotor chamber lid (4.2.2) by turning it to the
left and take it off.
4) Carefully pull out the rotor with the shaft in a
vertical line (4.3.1). The shaft (4.3.3) may become
loose when pulling out the rotor. This is no
problem, as the shaft is removed for cleaning
the rotor. However, the lower shaft locator and
the separator disc (4.3.4) will remain lying at the
bottom of the rotor chamber in this case. You
best turn over the filter head so the shaft loca-
tor and the separator disc will fall out. In case
the shaft remains stuck in the rotor, remove the
shaft locator and the separator disc on one side
and pull the shaft out of the rotor.
5) Clean the now empty tube (4.3.2) inside the fil-
ter head and the running tube with a bottle
brush. In case of damages at the shaft, rotor or
rubber shaft locators these must be replaced
as to prevent consequential damage.

Cleaning or changing the running unit of the sera
fil bioactive 130 (5)
1) Loosen the rotor chamber lid by turning it and
take it off (5.1).
2) Gently pull the rotor out of the rotor chamber
(5.2).
3) The shaft can also be pulled out afterwards.
First pull off the shaft locator on the rotor
(5.2.1). Clean the now empty tube (5.2.2) inside
the filter head and the running tube with a bot-
tle brush. In case of damages at the shaft, ro-
tor or rubber shaft locators these must be re-
placed as to prevent consequential damage.
Reassemble the filter in inverse order after you have
finished maintenance.
Checking the UV-C lamp
The UV-C lamp must be replaced if the control LED is
not lit after switching on the UV-C lamp.
Changing the UV-C lamp
for the sera fil bioactive external filters 250 + UV, 400 +
UV (6)
ttention: Pull power/mains plug before you start.
1)
Take the filter head off the filter (3d/3e).
2)
Pull out the locking bolt on the bottom side with
a pair of tongs (6.1.1).
3)
Loosen the tube connection to the UV-C lamp cas-
ing. First pull the tube (6.1.2) out of the lamp cas-
ing to the left side.
4)
Loosen the screw on the locking (6.2.1) of the
union nut.
5)
Unscrew the union nut (6.2.2) and take it off.
6)
Take off the glass protection cylinder (6.3.1) and
the glass cylinder (6.3.2) and pull the UV-C lamp
out of the fixture (6.3.3).
Reassemble in inverse order. Please make sure the
glass protection cylinder (6.3.1) properly locks in with
the cut-out in the edge at the bottom. Make sure the
two seal rings at the bottom end of the glass cylinder
and all further parts are firmly in place.
Let an expert change the UV-C lamp.
Changing the UV-C lamp
for the sera fil bioactive external filter 130 + UV (7)
ttention: Pull power/mains plug before you start.
Take the filter head off the filter (3d/3e). Loosen the
four screws on the bottom side of the filter head (7.1)
and the two screws on the upper side (7.2). The upper
and bottom parts are then separated while both parts
remain linked by cable connections. The clip lock han-
dles and the intake suction shaft may become loose.
They can easily be reinserted.
Cut the cable binder and pull the cable connector off the
UV-C lamp (7.3). Now screw off the big black ring on the
UV-C lamp holder (7.4). You can now easily take the UV-C
lamp with its cable out and insert a new lamp with cable.
Reassemble in inverse order.
Let an expert change the UV-C lamp.
S FETY PREC UTIONS
•
voiding water damages: It is advisable to watch
the filter closely for the first couple of days upon
the installation, as to make sure the hose connec-
tions are 100% water proof.
•
The sera fil bioactive external filter must be placed in
a safe dry spot outside the aquarium, just below the
water surface level. Never place the unit any lo w -
er than 1.5 m (60 in.) below the water surface level.
•
Do not submerge in water.
•
Operate filter only indoors.
•
Never operate without or without sufficient wa-
ter flow.
•
Disconnect this and all other electric devices
from the power/mains supply especially when
working within the aquarium (water) or on the
sera fil bioactive.
•
Protect the power/mains plug against moisture
and dripping water.
•
The sera fil bioactive external filter must be used
only for the indicated purpose.
•
The temperature of the water to be pumped must
not exceed 35°C (95°F).
•
The special sera UV-C lamp may be operated only
inside the sera fil bioactive + UV external filter
after it has been completely assembled according
to these directions for use. Every other use may
lead to skin and eye damage!
