13. The SmartLite
®
Max Light does generate some heat when in use. If multiple curing cycles in rapid
succession occur, especially in Boost mode, the case may get warm. The unit is equipped with an
automatic thermal safety shut-off and will shut down if the case temperature reaches 41°C. If this occurs,
to avoid skin or mucosa burns, place the unit in the charging cradle or on the counter and wait at least 6
minutes before trying to use the unit again.

2.3 Adverse reactions

1. Prolonged unfiltered exposure to the light source may cause damage to the eye. (See Warnings)
2. Prolonged contact with soft tissue may cause injury or irritation to the tissue. (See Warnings)
3. Medical conditions such as solar urticaria, erythropoietic protoporphyria or cataract surgery may be
aggravated by exposure to emitted light. (See Contraindications, Precautions)
4. Electrical appliances can interfere with some cardiac pacemakers. (See Precautions).

2.4 Storage conditions

Inadequate storage conditions may shorten the useful life and may lead to malfunction of the product.
• Store and transport at temperatures between 0ºC/32ºF - 40°C/104°F
• Use the product at room temperature
• Do not freeze
• Protect from moisture
3. STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
3.1 Initial set-up
NOTE: Upon receiving the SmartLite
damage that may have occurred in transit. If damage is apparent, please contact your authorized
DENTSPLY distributor from which the light was purchased.
Remove the contents from the shipping package. Be careful not to drop or impact the
curing light. Choose a flat, level, sturdy surface to place the charging cradle on. The
SmartLite
®
Max Light is shipped in a "hibernation" mode, and the display will be
blank. To wake the unit, press the On/Off button. (Fig 1.)
Before using for the first time, the SmartLite
first charge, this process will take about 3 hours. Use only the power supply furnished
with the SmartLite
®
Max Light system. Attempting to use another power supply source
may cause injury or damage and will void the SmartLite
Attach the probe to the hand piece as shown in Figure 2.
Plug the connector of the power supply into the back of the charging cradle, or plug it
into the bottom end of the SmartLite
other end of the power supply into the appropriate electrical outlet. As mentioned above,
wait for at least 3 hours to completely charge the light before the first use.
NOTE: Verify the line plug of the power supply plug is properly rated for your facility, and that all connections
comply with safe practices and all local requirements. Always use unit in conjunction with a properly
grounded outlet.
